Bresotec Medical, is a Canadian start-up based in downtown Toronto, Ontario, develops and commercializes technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. The office with bright lights and big windows is 3 minutes walk from Union Station.

Bresotec’s first product, BresoDx®, is an innovative device using proprietary acoustic and movement recording technology as an aid in the diagnosis of sleep apnea.

The technology behind BresoDx® was developed by iDAPT Research at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, iDAPT Research is the leading rehabilitation research center in the world. Toronto Rehabilitation Institute is a part of University Health Network (UHN) and is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. BresoTec was founded by UHN and MaRS Innovation, a non-profit incubator that acts on behalf of 14 of Toronto’s top universities, institutions and research institutes, as well as the MaRS Discovery District. .

What’s the position?

Due to business growth, we are hiring a dynamic Data Scientist/Machine Learning Engineer to join the team on a hybrid basis. You can come into the office 2-3 times a week to work closely with the team.

You, as the Data Scientist/Machine Learning Engineer, are a key part of the core IP development of the AI system we are building on AWS. You will be working with medical data collected from the patient, using DSP to process the data, and then apply Deep Learning algorithms (Python, Tensorflow) to generate reliable results that’s applicable for the physician’s diagnostic activity.

In another word, you must be experienced with:

• Digital Signal Processing (DSP), ECG, PPG, image processing, ect.

• Strong in the programming language – Python.

• Good at professional paper publishing for related patents for the work

What are the requirements?

To be a successful candidate in this Data Scientist position, you must have a Master’s or PhD degree, preferably with majors such as Biomedical, Digital Signal Processing, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. You also have 3+ Years minimum with meaningful work experience.

Other important qualifications include:

• Thorough understanding of at least one common programming or scripting language: C, Python, R and MATLAB.

• Experience with the following topics: Deep learning, including sequence models. Experience with Tensorflow and/or PyTorch. Classical machine learning using scikit-learn (30% of their time)

• Signal Processing, including time-frequency representations, feature engineering, dynamic programming (30% of their time)

• Implementing machine learning algorithms in production (40% of the time)

• Experience with coding standards, code reviews, organizational tools (e.g. JIRA), version control (e.g. git), and software testing.

• Ability to express technical ideas fluently in English

• Effective interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.

• Good analysis and problem-solving skills.

Desired Qualifications

• Python programming skills and experience

• Experience with model deployment using Tensorflow

• Experience with biomedical signal processing

• Experience with audio analysis

• Knowledge of the human respiratory system

• Practical experience with benchmarking and optimizing code

• Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., ISO 13485)

• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
