Brentford FC Community Sports Trust (BFCCST)
BFCCST, established in 1987 is an award-winning charity with an annual income set to hit £4m per annum within the next 3 years. Working with key partners across the private, public and voluntary sectors it has achieved numerous accolades, including winning Football League Community Club of the Year award on four separate occasions.
The Trust delivers programmes spanning sports participation, education, social inclusion, community cohesion and healthy lifestyles. Further significant expansion is planned following its appointment as a key partner in the redevelopment of Gunnersbury Park as a sports hub, and its move to new, larger, purpose-built premises directly adjacent to the new Brentford FC 17,500 capacity stadium near Kew Bridge. Safeguarding Statement
Brentford FCCST is committed to equality, the safeguarding and welfare of all children and adults at risk. This responsibility is shared by all staff and volunteers at the club, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Staff will be required to undertake regular safeguarding training to enable and reinforce a proactive approach to safeguarding. This role requires the post holder to apply all relevant policies and uphold the club’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable people to ensure a safe environment for all. This includes the timely reporting of any safeguarding concern to the safeguarding team.
The Education Department
The Education department is set up to provide personalised support and structured intervention, including both 1:1 and group sessions and activity. Our programmes are targeted at young people who are at risk of not achieving their potential.
The programmes in this department are delivered in partnership with a variety of professionals, the local authority, schools, educators, youth justice, and other agencies. This joined up approach, brings about meaningful collaboration and means that we are able to support those that need it most. Our programmes focus on positive relationships, developing strong interpersonal skills and building confidence in young people. Aspirations and goal setting are also central to the purpose, enabling young people to consider their future, whether this is linked to building more positive peer relationships or relationships at home, or their long-term future and career aspirations.
Main Purpose of Job
We are looking for a personable and committed individual who can work closely with young people across a variety of programmes by providing personalised support, bespoke activity and focused mentoring. You must be able to build rapport with young people and have a belief that with the right tools and support all young people wll achieve their potential.
You will need to build positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including their parents and carers, school leaders and teachers, funders and local authority contacts.
This role will support the following programmes;
· Brighter Futures – weekly 1:1 sessions for children & young people in care, at the edge of care and their families. Supporting with managing challenging behaviours, social, emotional needs and identifying strategies to help move forward.
· Premier League Inspires – weekly lessons designed for students who face significant barriers to learning. Delivery will be in schools, Pupil Referral Units and at our Community Stadium Hub.
· Focus 30 – weekly intervention to support secondary students struggling to manage their own behaviour in school. Both classroom and practical elements.
· Education & Sport Programme – referrals from Youth Offending Team who attend a weekly after school session to raise aspiration whilst achieving short qualifications.
· Short Breaks – termly after school club for Primary & Secondary children with SEND
Responsibilities
· Provide 1:1 support and mentoring to a case load of young people on our Brighter Futures programme.
· To provide tailored, high quality and engaging activities which meet the needs of the children and young people.
· Take a flexible approach to all cases, demonstrating empathy & understanding.
· Under direction of Line Manager, liaise with parents/guardians/local authority professionals attending Team Around the Families (TAF) meetings where required.
· To assist Line Manager with planning & delivery of sessions for our Education & Sport Programme for Youth Offending Team referrals.
· Deliver high quality activity and impactful sessions at local schools as part of both the Premier League Inspires Programme, Focus 30 programme & Short Breaks project.
· Timetable sessions and liaise with schools where necessary to ensure sessions are delivered on time.
· Maintain accurate records as appropriate for each project including Risk Assessments, Registers, Session Logs & case studies.
· Ensure safeguarding standards and expectations are always followed.
· Ensure supporting documents and reporting are up to date and entered on internal monitoring systems.
· Be able to demonstrate a positive impact on the young people you work with
· Support the Senior Coordinator with any other bespoke education projects in line with funding requirements.
Role Specification
Essential
· Experience of working with young people in a supportive role
· Experience of planning & delivering engaging sessions for young people
· Committed to working with young people who demonstrate challenging behaviour
· Organised and work with attention to detail
· Able to facilitate a group session with a group of young people, ensuring it is engaging and educational
· A good listener who understands the value of mentoring and 1:1 support
· An understadning of safeguarding and its importance
Desirable
· Experience of working in a school setting
· Experience of working in a pastoral role in a school
· Mentoring or teaching qualification e.g. Award in Education and Training (PTLLS)
· UKCC Level 1/2 coaching qualification or equivalent
· Youth Work qualification
