Our teachers possess deep academic content knowledge, hold high expectations for all students, create an inclusive learning environment, and have strong communication/interpersonal skills. As a Teaching Academy, all teachers will be expected to contribute to a vibrant professional learning community, to reflect on and improve their own practice and to mentor, train, and develop resident teachers.
About Dudley St. School
Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School operates within the Boston Public Schools as a Horace Mann “in-district” charter school. We opened our doors in 2012, and now serve over 300 students in grades PreK-5. Founded by the Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE) and the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI), we work with local partners to ensure all children in the Dudley neighborhood have access to a high-quality education.
Dudley Street School is a BPE Teaching Academy, part of a PreK-12 neighborhood school pathway that includes Dearborn STEM Academy (G6-12). Modeled after teaching hospitals, teaching academies serve as training sites for aspiring teachers participating in the Boston Teacher Residency program. All staff at Dudley Street School work collaboratively to enact ambitious teaching and learning in service of student achievement goals.
Dudley Street School Instructional Practices. Our teachers:
Build a culture where every student matters, participates, and engages in academic discourse.
Maintain a consistent focus on student reasoning.
Assess students’ understanding every day to inform instructional decisions.
Ensure students read and write in all content areas in meaningful ways, on a regular basis.
Integrate and connect language, instructional strategies, classroom routines, structures, and academic expectations to our essential habits of mind: perseverance, problem solving, independence, creativity, collaboration, and self-determination.
Key Position Responsibilities:
Provide English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction to English Language Learners.
Collaborate and communicate with the ELL student’s content teacher(s) to align instruction and support to both the ELL student’s English language development and their classroom instructional needs (instructions, vocabulary, reading and writing support, and clarification of assignments).
Collaborate and communicate with the school’s instructional leadership team, instructional coaches and administration to ensure ELL students receive language support and other forms of academic assistance.
Assist with the oversight and delivery of MEPA and MELA-O administration.
Prepare for and assist with organization of ELL student transition meetings for those ready to transition out of ELL services.
Plan and deliver lessons utilizing the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Benchmarks and Outcomes, and Boston Public School English Language Plan, and deliver appropriate lessons for varying levels of English proficiency. Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use effective and culturally-relevant instructional practices. Integrate technology into the classroom as an instructional tool and for personal productivity.
Demonstrate an understanding of and fluency with the BPS ESL Curriculum and the Massachusetts DOE English Language Proficiency Benchmarks and Outcomes (ELPBO).
Assist classroom teachers in the administration of all mandated state and local assessments for English language learners whenever appropriate.
Attend district and state-sponsored professional development opportunities sufficient to stay current with changes in ELL instruction and improvements in ELL teaching strategies.

Deep belief in the mission of Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School
Valid MA Teacher Licensures: License in ESL at the appropriate grade level required, additional licensure in Moderate Disabilities strongly preferred
SEI endorsement
Strong knowledge of ESL laws, regulations and proven practices
Ability to collaborate with a team of teachers and residents to meet a wide range of student skill, ability, and developmental levels in mixed-grade setting
Committed to using data and evidence to inform planning and instructional strategies
Strong instructional skills; demonstrated mastery of and enthusiasm for subject matter
Enthusiastic to reflect and grow (and help others to do the same) via coaching and feedback
Education: Hold a Bachelor’s degree
Current authorization to work in the United States – Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
Compensation:
Teachers at Dudley Street School are compensated in accordance with terms negotiated by the Boston Public Schools (“BPS”) and the Boston Teachers Union (“BTU”).
