The Carbon Analyst is pivotal in working within bp and externally to deliver on bp’s Net Zero Ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner and to help world get to net zero

This involves:

• A dynamic and collaborative approach across Strategy & Sustainability and all Business groups, Integrators and Enablers
• Providing key analytical capabilities including developing insights around the net zero ambition and supporting strategic projects
• Supporting development of input into key external reporting requirements and external initiatives
• Applying agile working practices to deliver the net zero ambition and aims

This role is accountable for:

• Working across bp to deliver the net zero aims and targets, including:
• Supporting integration of the carbon strategy and approaches through company frameworks (e.g. financial, operational), requirements, policies and procedures.
• Supporting bp-wide carbon accounting, methodology and forecasting methods.
• Supporting reporting on bp’s net zero aims and carbon disclosures including TCFD and CDP
• Undertaking carbon analytics to support performance management and insights
• Supporting key academic and NGO relationships
• Supporting regular reporting to the Board and Executive Team via established Sustainability Governance
• Representing bp externally in industry working groups
• Supporting training and awareness sessions on climate science, trends and emerging issues

Key Challenges

• Developing, informing and progressing carbon strategy in a highly technical complex and evolving field
• Working effectively across teams to deliver net zero ambition

Essential Education

• Degree level qualification in environmental, science, engineering, carbon or related discipline

Essential Experience and Job Requirements

• Good understanding of climate science and carbon accounting and methodology including how principles can be used across existing and new businesses
• Excellent data management and analytical skills
• Effective communicating and influencing skills and ability to lead across multiple stakeholders; and
• Innovative thinking skills.

Desirable Criteria

• Understanding of the bp strategy and business model, including central functions and businesses
• Understanding of the energy transition and the energy sector broadly and sectors within it.
