Starting Salary: Range of $42,000-$46,000 commensurate with experience.

Reports to: Director of Education

WORK LOCATION:

Placement at one of the 4 Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) High Schools (East, West, Memorial, La Follette) will be determined and discussed during the hiring process

Purpose of Position:

AVID/TOPS is a high-intensity, in-school and out-of-school partnership between Madison Metropolitan School District (AVID) and the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County (TOPS) focused on supporting students to develop the writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills needed to be college and career ready. AVID/TOPS students will increase their GPAs, attendance, high school graduation, and college acceptance. The goal of AVID/TOPS is to close the achievement gap by ensuring that students who are typically underrepresented on college campuses graduate from high school with the skills, knowledge, and experiences needed to be successful for college, career, and community.

Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities):

• Support AVID/TOPS students in transition into, through, and beyond high school, including curating resources for students, supporting student learning around college & career pathways, and building supportive relationships
• Plan and facilitate classroom community-building activities
• Provide student academic advising, social-emotional support, and advocacy
• Support curriculum design & implementation of summer career & leadership programming for youth
• Coordinate and integrate external guest speakers and field trips in support of partnership goals & student exposure to college & career pathways
• Facilitate the AVID 10-Step Tutorial process in collaboration with AVID elective teachers and coordinators, including facilitating tutorials as needed, monitoring the tutorial process, and
• Plan and facilitate site-based tutor orientation, quarterly debriefs, and professional learning for tutors
• Engage AVID/TOPS students in Boys & Girls Club supplemental college, career, and community readiness programming
• Providing ongoing tutor coaching and develop systems for feedback and communication
• Maintain databases to track Boys and Girls Club membership applications, attendance, and other data needed to reach objectives and fulfill grant requirements
• Connect students and families to additional resources provided by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County and serve as a liaison between BGCDC, school staff, students, families, and the community
• Collaboratively manage a site-based programming budget

Additional Responsibilities

• Required to participate in special programs and/or events including annual Youth of the Year, Hearts for Helping, College Decision Day, Summer Transition Conference, Move4BGC, Thanksgiving meal, and more
• Occasional weekend and evening work as needed
• Assume vacancies as needed
• Other duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic priorities of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, social sciences, or related field preferred
• A minimum of 2 years experience working in a non-profit organization, high school, school district, post-secondary institution
• 2 years direct service experience with youth in a non-profit or educational setting, preferably at the high school level
• Experience building relationships with students and staff of all ages from diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds
• Experience collaborating with and/or across multiple teams, or working in a community partnership model
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently
• Ability to build positive working relationships with BGCDC staff, board members, volunteers, members, partners, and stakeholders
• Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, G-Suite, and Zoom
• Preference to those with experience in equity initiatives or college readiness programs (such as AVID/TOPS, PEOPLE, ITA, College Possible, Posse, etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to build rapport with students
• Knowledge of youth development frameworks and understanding of the systems and structures that produce inequities that our program seeks to eliminate
• Ability and willingness to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours as needed

Required Hours:

The regular hours for this full-time exempt position are Monday – Friday during school hours (varies based on-site). Holiday, weekend and evening hours may be required as project deadlines dictate.

Work Location:

This position is based in a school site. Due to COVID-19, employees are currently telecommuting in a part-time capacity and with approval from the supervisor as to work deadlines and job, duties allow. This position reports to a school site daily. Employees must maintain phone and internet services to be able to complete work as required. Technology equipment will be assigned to ensure employees have access to BGCDC servers and files. Employees may be required to work from their assigned office as needed. All COVID-19 mandated policies must be followed as posted.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must be able to sit for long periods of time. Physical abilities required include bending at the waist and reaching above the shoulder to maintain files, speaking and hearing to exchange information, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, and other office equipment. The candidate will be exposed to extended periods of time walking and standing. Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.
