Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe Hiring for STEM & Education Coordinator, Truckee at Truckee, CA Full Time

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The STEM & Education Coordinator will be tasked with creating and implementing educational programs and activities with a special focus on education and STEM with some emphasis on aviation. This person will ensure that there are daily opportunities for club members to engage in educational enrichment, STEM, and/or aviation lessons at BGCNLT sites located in Truckee.

KEY ROLES

Leadership

• The Coordinator will be a liaison between Truckee Tahoe Airport District and BGCNLT and other agencies in the region to coordinate program availability to all local youth serving agencies.

Strategic Planning

• Plan, develop, implement and evaluate S.T.E.M. programs and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.

Resource Management

• Ensure S.T.E.M programs are meeting all grant requirements, and budget overall STEM programs according to available resources.
• Schedule and communicate program implementation with site managers, club members and volunteers.

Partnership Development

• Develop partnerships with schools, parents, community leaders, local STEM enthusiasts, and organizations.

Marketing and Public Relations

• Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of STEM programs, events, and activities within the Club and the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Summer Camps: Lead and assist with the implementation of “Summer Specialty Camps” focusing on STEM and aviation.
• Support Truckee Tahoe Airport District in the implementation of the “Santa Fly-in” event.
• Implement a minimum of two STEM & Education programs per quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring) during the school year.
• Plan and potentially implement STEM activities and programs during “STEM Block” times throughout summer camp.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Submit budget for required supplies and equipment for each S.T.E.M./Education program.
• Work with staff on special events to carry out programs at multiple sites.
• Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
• May oversee special programs or events, and/or participate in the implementation of other club activities as necessary.
• May be required to drive the club van and adhere to the BGCNLT Drug Testing Policy for drivers.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer) to interpret and explain STEM/Education program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with parents and members as needed.

External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member’s parents and others to maintain the success of STEM programs and activities.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

• Four year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of three years work experience in a Boys and Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated ability in program development and implementation, resource management, and participant recruitment
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems.
• Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Must be able to move freely about the club environment to supervise and monitor activities of staff and members, maintaining a safe environment for all.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Regularly required to use hands and fingers, feel, talk and hear.
• May be required to walk, sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
