HOURS: 9:00AM-5:00PM, Monday-Friday

JOB PURPOSE:
As the receptionist, you will provide phone and in-person support to all those accessing our front reception office at the Community Centre. This position will be the primary hub for calls into the Community Centre, and will require comfort with phone systems, and quick problem solving. This role will also be responsible for greeting and directing clients and visitors that come into reception. Customer service will be a central activity for this high-paced role.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, service-oriented environment in the Community Centre reception area.
  • Ensure all telephone calls are appropriately answered and connected to the required resource, service, or staff person.
  • Ensure all visitors to the front office are appropriately greeted and connected to the required resource, service, or staff person.
  • Provide business services to clients, assisting with telephone calls and faxes.
  • Provide support to management and staff to order and source office supplies and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Completion of high school plus post-secondary education in Administration or business administration.
  • At least 1 year directly related reception experience
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of poverty related issues, trends and services particularly in Edmonton is essential.
  • Knowledge of services and organizations in Edmonton’s inner-city is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience of Indigenous culture is desirable.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Conflict management/de-escalation.

Openness to intercultural learning – the ability to manage biases and use curiosity to learn more about others while also learning about yourself and creating spaces to share ideas and perceptions.

Self-awareness – the ability to understand oneself and the impact that one’s perceptions and attitudes have on others.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands (phone calls with in-person requests)
  • Great attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work in a respectful and client-centered manner
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)
  • Ability to operate a busy phone system, respond to messages, and transfer calls
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work effectively as a member of a team as well as independently
  • Able to work in a stressful environment and deal with difficult, sometimes abusive, clients
  • Must have excellent boundaries

Other Requirements:
  • Criminal Record and Child Intervention Checks (results will be reviewed on a case by case basis)
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Required to disclose vaccination status to employer
