The Space and Launch Satellite team focuses on several programs that enables communications across the world. Our space systems deliver rigorous performance evaluation and continues to be the highest quality source for innovative test and engineering solutions.
This role allows the opportunity to be a part of a high performing engineering team that is immersed in development and high NRE projects supporting satellites, Starliner, SLS, military aircraft, and proprietary programs. The candidate will lead technical teams in defining design, build, and test system requirements for satellite product lines, resolve high visibility technical issues, support on-site manufacturing challenges, assist in development of technology roadmaps and lean initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and incorporate lessons learned.
Position Responsibilities:
Lead the development of mechanism system and component designs using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools (PTC Creo, CreoView), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T ASME Y14. 5M) standards and/or other design methods, provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
Lead fabrication, assembly and test of spacecraft mechanism products to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
Lead supplier development, test and production activities to optimize the design and achieve program goals
Leads Mechanisms team members that will perform mechanisms engineering with layouts, preliminary strength analysis to support trade studies, detailed design, testing requirements, materials, processes, and tools, to define interfaces
Documents designs to meet requirements and objectives in support of product qualification and delivery
Supports evaluation and resolution of production and service issues
Supports design configuration activities by following regulatory and company approved processes and procedures
Evaluates test data to validate components and systems against design requirements and objectives
Leads the development of new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort
Support emerging technologies/concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
Conduct technical peer reviews, GD&T reviews and oversight, and general technical mentorship for less experience engineers
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
20 years of experience with mechanical/structures assembly engineering and/or mechanical research & development
10 or more years of experience in gimbals or robotics design
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience working in program systems engineering with contractual Statement of Work (SOW), Integrated Management Schedule (IMP/IMS), technical requirements documentation, ECPs, Gated Practice, etc.
Strong communication skills to interface with different program and customer teams
Active U.S. Security Clearance (Top Secret/Single Scope Background Investigation)
Familiarity with Aerospace Processes such as Quality Documentation (Non-Conformance s, Failure Review Boards, Material Review Boards, etc), Supplier Management Processes (Statement of Works, Product Specifications, End Item Date Reviews, etc), and Product Development Documentation (Critical Design Reviews, Manufacturing Readiness Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Qualification Test s, etc.)
Typical Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree typically 14 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a Master’s degree with typically 12 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years’ experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range: $146,200 – $197,800
