Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking an Mid-Level Software Engineer for their Advanced Information Technology (AIT) Team located in Seal Beach, CA .

As a Software Engineer, you will be part of an amazing, collaborative team working on proprietary programs. As a highly productive, talented, self-motivated, and creative member of Boeing Defense, Space & Security, you will work with multiple engineering and support groups, on both ongoing operational efforts and exciting future projects.

This exciting software engineer position requires demonstrated experience in software development (traditional and web-based) and database management (schema design/implementation and scripting), a diverse background of project experience, and the clear exhibition of superior judgment and decision making to engineer new solutions and support existing capabilities of multiple software programming projects. Demonstrated critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are required.

Primary responsibilities:
Maintaining (and developing when required) code, upgrading and integrating software components into a fully functional software system

Documenting and maintaining architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems

Developing software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met

Performing software project management and supporting software supplier management functions

Developing, selecting, tailoring and deploying software processes, tools and metrics

Troubleshooting software issues

Tracking and evaluating software team performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards

Performing software development tasks, including requirements analysis, detailed design, coding, unit/integration testing, maintenance, and user support

Developing new and various application issues

Contributing to the creation of new distributed components and interactions that align with the future software and system architecture

Working and interfacing with a technically diverse user community and a multi-disciplined integrated product team (systems and software)

Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders to develop software/application requirements, writing informative documentation, and providing user training & support

Collaborating effectively within a small team environment, as well as working tasks independently with minimal direction

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree

3+ years of experience in the following areas: programming (e.g., Fortran, C++, (e.g., Perl, Tcl/Tk, Python, Bash/Shell), operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, Solaris)

3+ years of experience with systems coding

1+ years of experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL, Oracle, PL/SQL) and database management tasks, including, but not limited to schema scripting (e.g., PL/SQL, stored procedures), schema-level troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Active Top Secret/SCI clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (An active U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance is required prior to start)

CompTIA Security+ Certification (Active; certification required prior to start)

Solid foundation in computer science and a genuine interest in software programming to investigate and solve challenging problems

Willingness to learn (a self-learner), proactively investigate new and collaborate with team members

Demonstrated experience in software application and tool development including, requirements analysis, detailed design, coding, unit testing/integration, configuration management, deployment, maintenance, and user support

Experience with lean/agile fundamentals and supporting tools (e.g., JIRA)

Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., CVS and TkCVS, Git and BitBucket)

Demonstrated experience with data manipulation and conversions across application, operating system, and system boundaries

Experience troubleshooting legacy and actively maintained software

Experience with peer review tools (e.g., Crucible/Fisheye)

Typical Education/Experience:
Education and Experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
