Blanc Labs Hiring for Software Development Lead at Toronto, ON Full Time

Blanc Labs is looking for an Software Development Lead to establish a technical vision with the development team and then lead them to turn it into reality. Along the way, a Software Development Lead will take on traits that other roles may have, such as a Development Manager or Architect and at the same time remain hands-on with code.

Responsibilities

Manage application development as well as the enhancement and maintain existing systems.

Drive the successful delivery of regular software releases in an Agile/Scrum environment.

Own the technical roadmap, product backlog, and lead Agile/Scrum meetings.

Be a creative problem solver that can develop a plan, take ownership of tasks, and are outcome focused.

Mentor and coach others on your team and all grow our skills together.

Provide guidance and direction to ensure high code quality.

Manages and appropriately escalates delivery impediments, risks, issues, and changes associated to the product development initiatives.

Leverage Open-Source technology and contribute to open source where possible.

Keep up to date on web and back-end development trends and understanding how it applies to our customers’ needs.

Must work effectively with members of cross-functional product development teams including Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, QA and Architects.

Demonstrate very strong technical leadership and people management skills including solid communication and analytical skills with thorough understanding of product development and successful problem definition, decomposition, and estimation.

Provide guidance to team members in areas of software architecture design, refactoring and on-going code improvements.

Desired Skills and Experience

6+ year of software development experience.

2+ years managing Software Developers in an Agile environment

Experience managing product development and delivering customer facing products and services.

5+year experience on Java 8.x (or higher) and/or Node.JS

Experience with AWS technologies – ECS, RDS, S3, Cognito, Lambda, SQS, etc.

Strong project management, problem-solving, change management and analytical skills.

Experience leading Agile and Scrum teams.

Solid experience writing RESTful APIs

Knowledge of web application security best practices

An ability to drive to big picture goals and milestones while valuing and maintaining a strong attention to detail

Strong interpersonal skills, focused on building relationships, and working in a collaborative environment with diverse cross-functional teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication and presentations skills.

Ability to learn quickly, change directions, and navigate complex decision making in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.

Full understanding of software development lifecycle best practices

Solid grasp of design and architecture principles (n-tier, microservices etc)

Experience managing projects in Unix/Linux environments, distributed systems and/or developing large scale web applications.
