We are seeking to fill a few QC Level II Inspector positions to be based at the CNRL Horizon Site in Northern Alberta. This is a temporary position to support an industrial construction turnaround project this May & June 2022. It will be a rotation of 10 days on & 4 days off at 10 hour days pre-shutdown and 24 days on & 4 days off at 12 hours per day through the Turnaround. Charter flights from Calgary or Edmonton and camp will be provided.
The Quality Control Level II Inspector is responsible for performing visual inspections, ensuring compliance with client specifications and the applicable codes & standards. The Quality Control Inspector will report to the Quality Control Lead. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Ensure quality systems, processes and documentation employed on site comply with Corporate Policy
Understand and implement the Quality Management System on site and in the field
Assist Superintendents with addressing nonconformities by developing correction and/or corrective action plans and conducting root cause analyses as required
Maintain welder qualifications per ASME Section IX
Develop and Implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITP)
Provide support to mechanical completion and preparation of turnover packages
Coordinate third-party inspection activities
Review and sign off NDE Reports
Planning and conducting surveillance inspections in accordance with scheduling requirements
Document manufacturer’s production and quality processes; review required production tests, including methods, equipment used and calibration of equipment
Document compliance and non-compliance found during the inspection, and raise RFI to client for proper resolution
Reading and interpreting engineered drawings
Prepare clear, comprehensive records and reports as required
Oversee Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Corrective Action Requests (CARs), and rework reporting from field to project management
Maintain suitable and accurate records for the welding, coating and other quality control requirements
Liaise with client inspectors on quality related issues
Liaise with the warehouse and Project Controls teams as required
Review awarded Construction Work Packages (CWPs), identify any deficiencies
Review scope of work and client documentation and raise Requests for Information (RFIs) as required.
Assist with development of Field Installation Work Packages (FIWPs) for projects
Check availability and application of correct welding procedures
Make random checks on welding procedure parameter; i.e. preheat, cool down procedures, travel speed, welding consumables, equipment output and records the result within your daily reports
Check that weld identification is occurring properly in accordance with the project approved Weld Numbering Procedure
Monitor visual inspections on finished welds
Inspect work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed

Certification as a CSA W178.2 Level II or III Welding Inspector
Certification as an API 510 / API 570 Inspector

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
5+ years of Quality Control & Quality Assurance experience in the Industrial Construction industry
Trade certification as welder, pipefitter or boilermaker or technical (2 year college program in related discipline), 5 years of which will be in QA/QC or P. Eng. with 8 years’ experience in industrial construction, 5 years of which will be in QA/ QC
3+ years’ experience working in Shutdown/Turnaround projects
Development of ITP’s
Maintain quality records and documents
Coordinating NDE, NDE requests and report review
Develop Hydrostatic test packages
Monitoring welding activities including interpass temperatures and parameters
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Organization and time management
Strong background in welding & fabrication is required
Experienced with ASME, API, ABSA and Alberta pressure equipment safety regulations
Extensive experience in development and implementation of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
Strong knowledge in CSA & ASME codes and standards is required
Intermediate user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
Ability to drive a vehicle for work related purposes
Valid class 5 drivers’ license (with clean 3-year abstract)
