Software Developers Required

The BDS Group, a data, development and design company based in Dumfries, is looking for individuals who are interested and passionate about technology and software development to join our team of developers. We are accepting applications for trainee developers but also welcome more experienced candidates.

About us

• BDS aggregates, curates and delivers metadata relating to print and e- books, audiobooks, film, music and video games.
• BDSDigital, part of the BDS Group, specialises in the design, build, hosting and maintenance of all types of websites with a speciality in providing websites for the book trade.
• We are based in the attractive surroundings of the Crichton Estate in

Dumfries, Scotland.

The position

• We are looking for talented people with a passion for technology.

• The position is full time and office-based at our Dumfries office.

Duties

• Work as part of a dynamic team to maintain and develop software.
• Receive constructive reviews, instruction and training to improve continuously over the course of your employment.

• Produce clear, well-written and thoroughly-tested code and relevant documentation.

Essential requirements

• An ability and passion for problem solving, and desire to work in software development.
• Good communication skills and a willingness to learn new things.
• Work to deadlines with clients of varying levels of technical ability.
• Good time management skills and ability to prioritise workload.

Desirable skills

Whilst not necessary, any prior commercial experience in building software or websites would be beneficial as would any relevant qualifications. Exposure to any of the technologies listed below would strengthen your application:

• Programming languages and frameworks, such as PHP, C#, .NET or

WordPress.

• Building database driven apps using SQL and/or NoSQL technologies.
• Web development technologies like HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Data formats like XML and JSON.
• Source control / version control technologies such as Git or SVN.
• Broader knowledge of IT and networking in general.
