Lead Financial Advisor Position with BYH

SUMMARY
Beyond Your Hammock (www.beyondyourhammock.com) is seeking a lead financial advisor to serve our 30- and 40-something clients who are experiencing major life transitions, growing families, and establishing wealth as they navigate corporate careers with complex compensation packages.

This is a full-time, salaried, and remote role (but with optional access to workspace in Boston, MA) for a CFP® professional with 5+ years of experience working with and supporting clients, and who is eager to deliver comprehensive financial advice that empowers our clients to live well today while building significant wealth for the future.

Our younger clients have complex, interesting, and engaging financial planning opportunities and problems to solve, and this position provides the chance to support their progress and make a meaningful difference in their lives.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Candidates interested in this Lead Financial Advisor position will need to:

• Develop comprehensive, holistic, and dynamic financial planning and investment management recommendations for clients in their 30s and 40s with complex compensation structures (including bonuses, commissions, and equity comp)

• Manage existing client relationships using a consultative approach, delivering exceptional service and the highest quality wealth management advice

• Lead client meetings via Zoom, taking excellent notes, then shape those into detailed meeting summaries to deliver to client

• Communicate with clients as needed via phone and email between formal planning meetings, to address concerns and timely/urgent matters as they happen

• Generate new business by engaging in prospecting activities and sales process
• Build relationships with strategic partners and COIs and nurture referrals from existing clients when appropriate
• Communicate with BYH’s custodian bank (TD Ameritrade Institutional/Schwab)
• Attend networking events and conferences as a representative of BYH
• Understand and be able to articulate BYH services and value propositions to consumers, prospective clients, and media
• Maintain BYH’s high client retention rate and quality standards
• Work closely with BYH team to improve financial planning practices, business processes and systems, and strategic growth initiatives

WHAT YOU HAVE:
Qualified candidates for this role will have the following:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working within financial planning or wealth management firms

• Minimum of 2 years as lead advisor, running meetings, managing relationships, creating financial plans and providing direct financial advice.

• CFP® designation
• Proficiency in equity compensation strategies for public and private companies
• Familiarity with younger client planning needs and analysis required (common scenarios include: home buying cost/affordability, job change compensation analysis, insurance/benefits selection, wealth-building strategies through backdoor Roth conversions, after tax 401(k) contributions, HSA investing, etc).

• Experience communicating the firm’s investment philosophy and discussing the pros and cons of various investment strategies (knowledge of private equity and credit a plus but not required)

• Hands-on work with eMoney required; Orion experience a plus but not required.
• Intrinsically motivated with ability to function well in a fast-paced environment; you enjoy hard work and seeing the results of your effort.
• Strong communication skills; you can clearly articulate thoughts in writing and you also enjoy picking up the phone and starting conversations.
• Desire to proactively and independently diagnose problems and propose creative solutions; you are resourceful, take initiative, and don’t want to sit around waiting to be told what to do next.

• Trustworthiness and integrity with desire to openly communicate (very important given the virtual and flexible nature of this role)

• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills – precision is paramount
• Capable of following established workflows and processes – but with a willingness to make suggestions for improvement where you see the opportunity
• Ability to manage projects (and time) independently; you understand how to prioritize and organize your days to get things done

WHAT BYH OFFERS: COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• $100,000 base salary
• First year bonus tied directly to top line revenue growth (i.e. firm grows 5%, you receive 5%, firm grows 50%, you receive 50%)
• 401(k) plan with 3% company safe harbor contributions after one year of service

WHAT ELSE SHOULD YOU KNOW?
The ideal candidate for this position will be driven to succeed with the team and invested in their own growth as well as the growth of the business as a whole. You take ownership of your work, but are also willing to jump into other areas of the business to help with projects as necessary.

This is probably not the best position or team for you if you:

• Want to clock your 40 hours per week and then completely check out; we do what it takes to serve clients and support the team
• Aren’t looking for a leadership role (and the responsibilities that come with that)
• Have no interest in anything business- or work-related when not at your desk

• Don’t spend some of your free time considering how you can improve yourself as an advisor or your advice for clients

• Have poor time management skills or don’t know how to prioritize your time when you have competing projects in progress at once

• Need the structure of a physical office, with set hours that you are expected to be at your desk, to stay focused and on track with your job responsibilities
