Special Education Teacher
Bering Strait School District is accepting applications for Special Education teachers for the 2022-23 school year. We are beginning to do interviews by video conference and other means.

We are a standards-based and data-driven district, and require progressive, flexible teachers who are supportive of a Response to Intervention (RTI) approach to instruction, and willing to implement related strategies.

Being comfortable using technology to track student progress, and to prepare documentation would be a significant advantage. BSSD utilizes a comprehensive web database for tracking student progress called PowerSchool, technology is used for most day-to-day tasks. All classrooms are wirelessly connected to the Internet.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Special Education Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelors or Masters degree in special education or related field.
2. Current teaching certificate with endorsement in Special Education
3. Experience assessing academic progress.
4. Experience in writing and implementing individual educational plans.
5. Experience working with students who have both limited and accelerated academic achievement and behavioral concerns.

PROFESSIONAL GOALS:

1. To provide students with a quality education
2. To provide an environment where positive, successful learning can take place

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Processes teacher referrals through help with identification and testing.
2. Writes individual education plans to meet student needs.
3. Maintains accurate and complete records.
4. Participates as a team member in child study team meetings.
5. Helps teachers with implementation of individual educational plans.
6. Act as resource teacher to village school staff.

SALARY: Placement on BSSD Teacher Pay Scale. (See the BSSD Negotiated Agreement for more details.)

Pets are allowed. Pet Fee – $20/month per pet, 3 pet maximum.
All apartments are furnished with major items (bed, tables, chairs, lamps, etc.)

NEGOTIATED
AGREEMENT Current Negotiated Agreement in place July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2021

LONGEVITY BONUS After 3 years – $1,000/year ($3,000 lump sum bonus); After 5 years – $1,500/year ($7,500 lump sum bonus); After 7 years – $2,000/year ($14,000 lump sum bonus)

SIGNING BONUS All certified staff who sign with the District are eligible for a $2,000 signing bonus that is issued in January

FIRST CHECK 1st paycheck is issued the last working day of August!

Claims submitted by November 1 for prior year
Maximum of $2,500/year (or legal maximum) for medical
