Their team of experienced professionals and large fleet of equipment can safely and efficiently handle any size project.

We are looking for a new team member to fill the position of Barge Hand at BelPacific who will report to the Marine Manager, and work closely with the barge loading foreperson and crew. We operate a barge loading facility that receives spoil for ocean disposal from numerous excavation sites. The facility is in South Vancouver and would be the primary work location (work at other locations may be required occasionally)

Barge Hand will work closely with the barge loading crew to monitor, direct and track truck deliveries, load barges safely and efficiently, maintain the loading facility and assist with barge movements.

Key Accountabilities:

• Reliable attendance and cooperation with barge crew.
• Clear communication with other team members.
• Willingness to learn about trucking procedure and barge movements.
• Attention to detail when recording trucking data.
• Safe and attentive communication with truck traffic.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Directing truck traffic as is arrives at the barge.
• Recording truck information for every load.
• Working to keep the barge ramp operational and responding to unforeseen conditions (ie. Snow).
• Maintaining barge ramp on non-hauling days (repairs, maintenance, cleaning, etc.).
• Assisting with barge movements (adjusting ropes and lines, measuring freeboards, operating hydraulic controls and winches).
• Working with tugboats to collect and receive barges.
• Communicating via radio with other crew members.
• Controlling traffic on roadway.

Qualifications:

The following would be an asset to this position but are not mandatory:

• Experience directing dump trucks on construction sites.
• Experience working in marine construction, barging, towing or in a marine environment.
• Traffic Control Person (TCP) qualification.
