Construction Accountant

Job Summary

Essential position primarily providing accounting support to the company. The Construction Accountant performs professional level accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records. This position requires considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles and accounting functions and is responsible for the general ledger, job cost, bank reconciliations and accounts payable and receivable. Additional responsibilities include performing monthly closings, maintenance of accounting files, and preparation/organization of various financial forms, reports, financial analyses and compliance management for insurance and bonding requirements.

This position may be asked to assist with ad-hoc projects and general office support tasks when necessary. These responsibilities and tasks will be coordinated with and supervised by the President and or Operations Manager.

Essential Functions

• Handle and process all aspects of construction payables, including input and coding of AP invoices, input of AR, processing contract award work sheets and maintenance of the job cost chart of accounts.
• New job set up and close out of completed projects.
• Process contractors’ payment applications for monthly billings and other accounts receivable.
• Prepare financial statements monthly quarterly and annually.
• Perform monthly close and related journal entries, using Jonas Premier.
• Monthly review of job cost activity ensuring consistent and proper coding.
• Benefits administration.
• Payroll processing bi-weekly.
• Compliance management for all sub-contractors, insurance and bonding.
• Oversee office administrative staff.
• Other administrative and accounting tasks as assigned.

Specific Job Skills

• The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
• Ability to access and accurately input information using construction accounting software.
• Must have considerable knowledge with basic accounting principles (journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions.
• Job costing in the construction industry will be key for this position.
• Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with little direct supervision.
• Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.
• Must have excellent organizational skills.
• Must be proficient with Excel, Word and Outlook applications.
• Working knowledge of Jonas software or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of QuickBooks.

Education/Experience

• Four year degree in accounting or another related field.
• Minimum 2 years, prefer 5 years of construction accounting experience.
• Experience with construction related software.

Work Environment

This position is located in our Clackamas Oregon office. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday 8AM to 4:30PM.

Job Types: Full-time, Internship

Pay: $75,000.00 – $100,000.00 per year
