BASIC FUNCTION:

Under general supervision, negotiates and procures an assigned group of production materials. Responsible for the purchase of certain services, supplies, and capital equipment. Obtains the terms that are most favorable to the company while maintaining viability of the production schedule. Monitors vendor performance in quality, service, and the delivery and initiates changes where necessary.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Utilizes MRP and all available pertinent information to perform purchasing functions.
• Procures daily production requirements and monitors for shortages and difficulties.
• Monitors and assigns responsibility for new items as they are created.
• Researches and qualifies new vendors as required.
• Researches marketplace for new, improved and more economical purchased items. Coordinates with engineering.
• Communicates with vendors in meeting production requirements through expediting, rescheduling, changing or canceling of purchased items.
• Resolves other purchasing related problems as they occur. Guides and mentors subordinate buyers with their problems.
• Responsible for administering warranty claims.
• Monitors and measures vendor performance. Creates vendor performance s and issues to management and vendors. Initiates corrective action where required.
• Works with vendors in obtaining optimal product, terms and pricing.
• Communicates effectively with all departments coordinating acceptable quality and delivery of purchased material.
• Prepares s as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

A Bachelors Degree in supply chain management, business administration or a related field is required. A minimum of five to eight years experience is also preferred. Individual should have a thorough knowledge of purchasing procedures and techniques. Professional purchasing certification is desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Some bending and twisting is required. Routine duties will occasionally require lifting approximately 10-20 pounds (and periodically heavier loads.)
