JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:
1. Performs all the duties of the Application Support Specialist 1 job. Provides technical direction

to the Application Support Specialist 1. Responds to telephone and email requests for support and

provides second-level troubleshooting.

2. Identifies application data quality processes and data issues and recommends appropriate

changes to the application or process to correct.

3. Develops training programs and materials, coordinates and conducts user level classroom

training for a variety of IT applications and enhancements.

4. Prepares or updates system documentation, new or revised operating procedures, instructions,

manuals and other documentation.

5. Monitors and ensures application performance, quality and other standards are maintained;

responds to questions and addresses issues escalated by the Application Support Specialist 1.

6. Meets with outside agencies and other BC Hydro business units to gather information required

to clarify their business requirements and to determine how these might be integrated into an

application; analyzes information from a systems and process perspective and recommends how

to proceed with client’s request.

7. Plans and coordinates assigned portions of change management plans; may assign specific

activities to the Application Support Specialist 1.

8. Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the

job.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

• All the skills, knowledge and abilities of the Application Support Specialist 1.
• Thorough understanding of the function or operational area that the various assigned

applications are meant to support.

• Ability to train users in a classroom setting.
• Extensive knowledge of computer system development processes.
• Ability to analyze and document system requirements.
• Demonstrated analytical problem solving skills necessary to deal with and resolve user

problems.

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software and data issues.
• Sufficient knowledge and strong relationship building skills to liaise with outside agencies and

other BC Hydro business units.

• Demonstrated ability to conduct change management activities.

Qualifications:

• Experience, Training and Education (demonstrating requirements):
• Completion of a diploma or certificate from a technical institute with a minimum of two (2) years

of practical Technical Help Desk experience acquired as an Application Support Specialist 1 or in

an equivalent computer operational position that includes two (2) years experience working with a

large scale and complex application specific to a Business Group or functional group across the

organization, such as McLaren, DAD, Passport, SAP, SAM, ADCS (Itron OCE), MDMS (Itron IEE).

• Demonstrated proficiency with one or more computer applications assigned to the position (as

determined by operational need), such as McLaren, DAD, Passport, SAP, SAM, ADCS (Itron

OCE), MDMS (Itron IEE).

• Knowledge of adult learning principles is typically acquired through a Certificate in Adult

Learning or 2 years of equivalent training experience.

• Demonstrated capability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with peers,

managers and external contacts.

• Requires a valid BC driver’s licence or demonstrated ability to meet travel requirements

independently.

• Satisfactory performance on this job may require completion of BC Hydro’s Electrical

Fundamentals within 12 months.

This is a hybrid role requiring two days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday). This role will support

and provide training for Passport Distribution and SAP EAM as well.

Working Conditions:
Works in a normal office environment. Frequent travel is required to conduct training sessions at

various locations throughout the province. Regular overnight travel.

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home

based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for

each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time

from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
