BBC Food is a small, Bristol-based team managing the recipe output of the BBC’s programmes and campaigns. As part of BBC Education it’s our mission to teach our audiences about all aspects of eating well. Through articles, video and quizzes, we explore health and nutrition topics, eating on a budget, improving cooking skills and mythbusting.
We are looking for an experienced digital Producer with great editorial skills and experience who has a solid knowledge of food culture, politics and cookery.
Main Responsibilities
BBC food is looking for a producer who will manage ongoing plan of publishing and promotion of recipes and articles to drive digital reach and engagement, incorporating programme and commissioned content. You will also be responsible for generating new ideas for, commissions and edits feature articles to ensure accuracy, clarity and impartiality to the highest standards.
As well you will prepare and upload content to appropriate platforms using online publishing tools. Also ensuring all content meets identified audience/user needs and is in line with editorial strategy, informed by quantitative and qualitative data.
You must be able to deliver to tight deadlines and changing requirements whilst maintaining the highest editorial standards. This would also include generating ideas for, commissions and producing recipes, photography and video content, including compliance and safety checks. And also Manage a creative team of in-house digital food specialists and freelance contributors, with a commitment to diversity and inclusion in our staffing and content.
Are you the right candidate?
To be successful in this role it’s important that you have a genuine interest in encouraging and helping audiences to connect with our recipes. You’ll be digitally literate and interested in the details of publishing recipes in an online context, using data to inform your decisions.
You will be audience-focused in everything you do, putting yourself as a cook in the shoes of our users and helping them to find the best content. You’ll have superb attention to detail in producing trustworthy, high-quality content and have creative flair in how you sell it to our audience.
You will possess excellent editorial judgement, with an informed knowledge of the food industries and stakeholders. You’ll predict difficult questions and head off editorial issues at the pass.
Your organisational skills will be excellent, managing day-to-day promotions within a fluid broadcast environment, while working on longer-term projects to ensure they deliver on time and within budget.
A superb communicator, you will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a collaborative team, remaining calm and focused under pressure. You’ll support a creative team in achieving their best.
Please note: this role requires a relevant DBS check to be undertaken by the BBC at the appropriate level, at the point of offer of a contract of employment.
