The role is part of a finance function delivering an integrated, sustainable and high-quality accounting and reporting service to BBC CiN stakeholders BBC business and finance customers at the right level of cost.

Content Accountant will:

• Work within divisional business teams providing professional financial support to the Business Managers, Editors, Budget Holders and Centre of Excellence teams
• Provide effective control and deliver operational excellence

Adopt and contribute to continuous improvement across finance and key BBC processes

Main Responsibilities

Aims of the role

To support the Finance Business Partner in providing robust financial information for the registered charity, BBC Children in Need, deputising where necessary. In particular provide timely reporting that adds value across the Charity and supports achievement of the Business Plan:

• Preparation of management accounts
  
• Analytics of data to support business reporting
  
• Support the Business Planning process
• Business Partnering across the Charity
• Review and continuous improvement of controls and processes

Main Responsibilities

Preparation of management accounts

• Specific focus on the income and grant making side of the charity
• Review of underlying data identifying and resolve any anomalies. Work alongside the Finance Business Partner and Co-Ordinators
• Preparation of non-standard month end journals (prepayments and accruals) and review of standard month end journals prepared by Co-Ordinators
• Overseeing and preparing where needed relevant balance sheet reconciliations and responsibility for accuracy
• Preparation of management accounts for trading entity CiN Ltd
• Circulate information on a timely basis

Analytics of data that supports management accounts

• Ad-hoc project reporting to identify delayed grant activity and income shortfalls
• Prepare narrative to support management accounts including variance analysis actual v budget

Support the business planning process

• Preparation of templates to be used across the Charity during the Business Planning process and provide information to support budget holders and a range of stakeholders
• Control and guidance of base line grants and guidance to non-finance staff
• Responsible for sense checking the overall grant budget with budget holders
• Co-ordinate the process from start to end to support the Finance Business Partner

Business Relationship & Partnering

• Proactively seek information from relevant budget holders to ensure accurate reporting and, reforecasting of costs to end of financial year
  
• Work closely with members of the Executive Team
  
• Internal finance team support; collaborating with the Finance Business Partner to ensure optimal output of finance information

Controls and Processes

• To explore Access Dimensions as a means of more efficient reporting by developing AOI reporting
  
• Support the review and continuous improvement of Finance and Charity wide processes following the LEAN principles
  
• Review all finance controls to ensure all are fit for purpose and being adhered to
• Strive to make efficiencies across everything we do, savings of time and money

Financial Compliance

• To assist where necessary with the statutory and corporate financial returns for BBC Children in Need and Limited
• To maintain the audit trail for all month end routines and to liaise with external and internal auditors as required

Working with People

• To develop and maintain good working relationships with all key members of CIN both internal and external
• To work with members of the wider finance team to promote and share best practice
• To support, provide timely advice and assistance to the Finance Business Partner and Budget Holders on financial matters
• To build and maintain relationships with external contacts including banks, investors and 3rd party system providers

• To escalate issues as appropriate
• To contribute to improving the quality of own work and the work of others
• To facilitate improvement in own performance and own professional and career development by identifying and meeting own training and development needs and in identifying future career opportunities with the support of the Financial Business Partner

Are you the right candidate?

Essential

• Significant experience of delivering a high-quality accounting and reporting service.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence.
• Ability to take complex data/principles and communicate these in an understandable way to wider BBC team .
• Knowledge of the theory and practical application of accounting principles and controls.

Desirable

Professional accounting qualification e.g. ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification; AAT or studying towards
