CHEMICAL ENGINEER
BayoTech’s hydrogen generation systems produce local hydrogen close to the application. This saves customers money and reduces the carbon intensity associated with the legacy challenges of liquifying and transporting hydrogen. This allows BayoTech to serve a diverse set of end-users, including traditional consumers in the industrial gas and chemicals industries and those using hydrogen to power the fast-growing fuel cell segment.

JOB SUMMARY
This position can be performed remotely, with frequent travel and/or extended stays at future BayoTech hub locations.
The chemical engineer will be a critical part of the team and will be responsible for developing best practices for starting up and operating BayoTech’s steam methane reforming (SMR) hydrogen processes. As they come online, the chemical engineer will be an integral part of the startup team for BayoTech hydrogen SMR ‘hubs’. The engineer will build a significant body of knowledge around operating, maintaining, and optimizing the hub processes alongside their mechanical, electrical, and controls peers on the team.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gain rapid familiarity with SMR equipment and knowledge collected from the Albuquerque pilot plant.
- Assist in the startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting (various locations, travel required – up to 50%).
- Develop and document procedures to operate hub modules and serve as a key conduit of learning and continuous improvement opportunities, back to the process design team.
- In concert with operations, create engineering s and support configuration control of associated documents such as P&IDs, etc.
- Key contributor to Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (PFMEA) & Process Hazards Analysis (PHA), and continually update risks and mitigation based on hub operating experience.
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for process and safety issues.
- Create/revise bills of materials, and process control sheets as needed.
- Collaborate with other Technology engineers and Operations on design and/or operating procedure improvements.
- Identifies creative design solutions that optimize project capital or operating costs, equipment reliability, or project schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering required, Master’s degree desirable.
- 5+ years of experience in the process industry, producing chemicals or materials at a small but commercial scale.
- Experience in supporting operations and upgrading and optimizing operating plant processes.
- Can demonstrate the ability to successfully manage programs and complete goals with minimal direction.
- Practical knowledge of statistical methods, Lean, TQM, and/or other quality programs.
- Likes working with teams. Collaborative.
- Self-starter who can work remotely in a rapidly changing environment with little supervision.
