This position serves as a Logistics Manager / Shipper for the Bay Area Environmental Research (BAER) Institute, a non-profit organization focused on enabling research in earth and space science through collaboration with federal scientists, primarily at the NASA AMES Research Center.
The Logistics Manager / Shipper works with the NASA Earth Science Project Office (ESPO) team that conducts scientific field campaigns, both national and international.
The position plans, communicates and implements logistics activities to support project deliverables and detailed requirements related to the deployment of personnel, equipment, and supplies required for national and international science missions.

Essential Functions :
1. Plan, communicate and implement a mission shipment plan.
2. Collect shipping requirements from more than 30 scientists and creates essential
summaries, shipping documents and presentations to ensure every item is carefully
tracked.
3. Provide shipping costs estimate, budgets and expense s.
4. Provide detailed communications, both written and oral, to scientists and management
to leave no requirement missed or item left behind.
5. Provide shipping support for national and international science missions using trucks,
ships, air cargo, military airlifts, Fed EX / UPS, and other means.
6. Handle and pack supplies and equipment, as well as various compressed gases,
cryogens, and other chemicals.
7. Setup and teardown large deployment operations, including lab and office furniture,
audio, video and communications equipment.
8. Purchase, inventory and store deployment equipment.
9. Maintain a small staging warehouse.
10. Maintain supplies and science support equipment.
11. Coordinate local support (hotels, transportation, contracts, etc.).
12. Coordinate with U.S. Embassy and Foreign Customs Offices.
13. Other functions as required by the position.

Required Education and Experience :
Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in logistics or transportation; or
Minimum of three to five years of experience planning, coordinating and executing logistics support and project management activities relating to the deployment of personnel, equipment, and supplies.
Travel :
The position requires extensive and sometimes frequent U.S. and international travel, often 3 weeks in duration and occasionally for up to 30 days at a time.
Required overnight travel may be as high as 40% of the time. Employee must be a U.S. citizen, and able to acquire a passport.
Security Clearance :
Must be able to pass personal background checks for working with the military, TSA, and the State Department.
Other Position Requirements :
Must have forklift operator certification (or be capable of completing the training and certification), and be able to operate a forklift with delicate equipment, and around aircraft.
Must be able to obtain dangerous goods shipping certifications and maintain good standing.
Responsible for carrying out assigned duties in a manner consistent with the safety policies defined by the ESPO managers.

Responsible for insuring that no export or transfers of export-controlled items are made to any foreign entity under any NASA program unless the exports or transfers are in conformity with approved contracts or international agreements, and that U.
S. export control laws and regulations as delineated in the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are being met (NPR 2190.1B and NPD 2190.1B).
Must have good working knowledge of personal computers, email, and basic office software. Also, employee must be able to learn basic computer network configuration and setup.
Must maintain all NASA / BAERI required training and maintain compliance with all regulations.

Work Environment :
Position requires some moderate discomfort resulting from working outdoors, or in warehouse and airport environments, requiring exposure to chemicals, fumes, low / high temperatures, high humidity, or drafty or noisy conditions.
Physical Demands :
Must be physically fit and be able to move large boxes (often weighing more than 50 pounds), load trucks, and arrange and sort equipment.
