The Career Advisor is primarily responsible for providing career counseling, educational planning, and other supports aimed at student onboarding and meeting program course requirement during the entire student lifecycle, from entry to completion.
This position is a 225 day, 8 hours contract.
Essential Functions and Other Duties
Entry Advising
Provide support to students navigating the process from admissions to registration for classes.
Assist prospective students in clarifying educational goals and career training options consistent with their aptitudes, basic skill development, career interests, prior education and training, and individual learning styles.
Review test scores, transcripts, prior work, campus placement resources, and other documentation to place students into appropriate math and English courses.
Meet with and advise students concerning all educational program credential requirements, academic course work, college and community resources, and funding options.
Inform students of program entry requirements and enforce such requirements in conjunction with the program faculty
Maintain and monitor waitlists. Contact students on lists regarding program openings and potential start dates.
Facilitate on-campus career training Information Sessions and participate in New Student Orientation.
Student Success Advising
Monitor and track student progress toward completion through the use degree planning software, student tracking software, and other software provided by the college.
Work with instruction and other areas of campus to promote student retention, completion, and success.
Assist students by reviewing transcripts from other institutions and guiding them through the credit transfer process.
Collect student data for use in informing the college of successful strategies in the recruitment, retention, and completion of students.
Communicate with students via email, phone, in-person, and virtual meetings in a timely manner.
Communicate with the Director of Outreach, Advising, and Conduct regarding potential issues related to curriculum, course construction, student entry and retention, and other related areas that impact student success.
Provide budget management which includes requisition and maintenance control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program.
Utilize and support college-sponsored systems and processes to support enrollment.
Non-Essential/Other Functions
Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc. as assigned by the Dean of Student Services.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field
Three years’ experience in higher education or related field involving counseling individuals.
Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Higher Education Leadership, Social Work, Psychology or related field.
Experience working directly with students at a public two-year institution.
