Operations Engineer (xxxxx) – Windsor, Ontario

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to act as a technical specialist and resource to the Engineering Department assuring that operations are performed as efficiently as possible and in compliance with safety, product quality, occupational health, product registrations, environmental protection, process safety and according to customer requirements.

This role will own Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Process Safety Information, process material physical property data, lead troubleshooting efforts, and interact with Operations, Maintenance, and other operational support personnel. You will generate and manage MOC’s for your area of responsibility.

Formula for Success

Using Lean / Six Sigma tools, you will deliver process improvements in quality, productivity, cost and customer delivery opportunities while also demonstrating strong leadership in safe plant operation and adherence to BASF Occupational and Process Safety rules and policies

Leveraging your education in Chemical Engineering (Professional Engineer license preferred) and your experience in chemical and/or batch processes, you will support the daily and strategic equipment and controls to improve production rates and ensure customer demand is met.

Utilizing your deep knowledge of process equipment and chemical processes, you will be the manufacturing representative for the introduction of new formulations. You will also be responsible for the ongoing optimization (both production and quality) of the site’s formulations against the site’s manufacturing capabilities

Demonstrating your knowledge of OHSA and Responsible Care, you will ensure the site’s production operates effectively under these governing bodies.

Your proven ability to work in a team environment will be essential as you lead MOC’s (management of change) to facilitate both small and large scale projects.

Leveraging your previous experience in a chemical/refining or similar manufacturing environment, you will provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the Daily Operational Team for plant problems that occur and will closely monitor the process conditions and provide technical support and feedback to the Operations team.

Your understanding of engineering principles and their practical application in a plant environment will aid your role in driving standardization across shifts and optimization of operating costs; partner with other site/area functions for standardization and best practice sharing across the site.

Leveraging your strong communication skills across all levels, you will work closely with other support groups like Maintenance to ensure that proper priorities are placed on items in the Maintenance backlog and will interface with suppliers, customers, and vendors as needed to maintain plant operation.

Your demonstrated experience with continuous improvement and change management initiatives will drive your leadership in root cause failure analysis for EHS, quality, and production incidents

Your strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability will serve you well as you perform incident investigations and root cause analysis.

Your experience in DCS controls and/or PLC enables you to troubleshoot general instrumentation and control valve problems and troubleshoot and support the operations department.

Prepare data for and participate in project MOC’s, PHA’s and other risk assessments as required

Expected to lead small to large projects that improve the safety, efficiency and quality of the site.

Your understanding of manufacturing operations and equipment will drive the optimization of scheduled and unscheduled downtime and overall cycle time improvements (Asset Effectiveness and AE tools) and will allow you to assist the department in the coordination, planning, and execution of shutdown or turnaround work including maintenance and capital activities.
