Mainframe Software Engineer

As a Barclays Software Engineer (Senior Developer) you will be joining the team at an exciting time. Working collaboratively as a team, to lead components of software development for the Customer and Risk application across the detailed design, build and unit test phases of the lifecycle. This opportunity is location flexible. We will consider requests for locating the role at an alternative Barclays’ key UK office from that advertised.
What will you be doing?
- Undertake impact assessment of change requests for the Customer and Risk application.
- Produce component designs that are compatible with the end-to-end system design.
- Undertake build activities of complex coding & unit testing following proven coding and unit testing standards
- Collaborate with other component design and build teams, ensuring that end-to-end system design is followed
What we’re looking for:
- Design and Build experience of a customer processing mainframe application, with strong peer review skills and the ability to share systems knowledge with Technical Apprentices
- A good knowledge IT Software development consisting of the following languages and technologies: COBOL , DB2 , IMS DB/DC , Stored Procedures & z/OS Connect
- Extensive proven experience of IBM Mainframe development
- Strong Cobol development experience within IBM mainframe environment
Skills that will help you in the role:
- End-to-end software development lifecycle
- Software development methodologies, e.g. waterfall, agile
- BSc degree in relevant software engineering discipline, equivalent to UK 2nd class honours or 5+ years’ experience as a mainframe software engineer
- Previous experience with Z/OS

You will be based in Radbroke, Knutsford. The Barclays Technology Campus just outside Manchester is our tech command centre and a vital strategic powerhouse behind our global operations. The campus is set in a 64 acre self-contained site, in a beautiful green environment and it offers unrivalled facilities for work and for play.
