As a Barclays Senior Software Engineer, you will work in the Proprietary Card Payment Gateway team within Cards & Payments. This team is responsible for the development and operation of a 24/7 card payment service which is used by many well-known UK-based businesses. The Gateway team is constantly extending the functionality of the service, offering new features, keeping it abreast of contemporary payment methods and in compliance with the rules set out by the card schemes.

We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. What will you be doing?
• Working as a member of an Agile development team

• Implementing new functionality to meet the ever-changing demands of the payments landscape
• Developing automated tests and automated deployment of components
• Developing technically robust, easy-to-maintain and easy-to-scale solutions
• Providing accurate estimates to develop well-engineered code that meets acceptance criteria
• Working closely with other team members in a globally-distributed team
• Offering technical guidance to less experienced members of the team
• Providing support and advice to other areas of our business, including ops, tech, consultancy and pre-sales

• Appreciation of Object Oriented Design and Programming concepts
• Ability to write User Stories and Features based on high-level requirements
• Direct experience in Software delivery and deployment patterns (e.g. Continuous Delivery, Continuous Integration, etc.)

• Experience in software development within the Payment Industry
• Experience working in a highly regulated environment; appreciation of the importance of compliance, security and quality
• Experience in delivering solutions in an Agile environment (ideally SAFe)
