Position Overview:

J Barbour & Sons have a new and exciting opportunity for an undergraduate student to join the Commerical Finance team for a 12-month period. This placement will work alongside senior finance and accounting professionals to support the commercial functions. You will be involved in accounting activities, supporting commercial decision making in future resource investments, and will carry reporting and analytical responsibilities for financial information in your area.

Finance Student placement

• Support the Commercial Finance team in providing appropriate reporting, analysis and commentary for month-end management reporting and regular leadership reviews.
• Evaluate financial performance by comparing and analysing actual results with prior year and budget/forecasts
• Reporting performance on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis as required.
• Analysis of large data sets using tools such as Excel, and delivery of concise financial outputs.
• Support the Commercial Finance team with annual planning process including budget and rolling forecast updates.
• Increase productivity by developing automated reporting/ forecasting tools.
• Engaging with the UK cross sector and international teams to investigate and resolve ad hoc issues.
• Collaborating on team projects and driving process efficiencies.
• Support planning of team events

• Support of wider Finance team where appropriate

Skills and Experience:

• Currently in your second year studying a finance related degree course (Accounting and Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Sciences and Business-related degree types preferred)
• Excel (lookups/pivot tables) very beneficial – analysis, data manipulation and reporting
• Confident and outgoing communicator
• Ability to build strong relationships through communication

• Excellent level of analytical ability

Additional Information:

• To apply for this placement, you must be currently studying an Undergraduate Sandwich Degree Course and able to undertake 12 months in industry as part of your course.
