POSITION OVERVIEW

Modeling

The Financial Planning & Analysis Modeling Expert is actively involved in the preparation of the five-year business plan and the annual budget by designing, creating, implementing and modifying financial models to present several simulations, analyses and s relating to financial information. The incumbent is also responsible for improving financial models and proposing solutions to create efficiency through process enhancement.

The individual is accountable for the quality of models’ documentation. He/she will ensure that each model is clearly documented in a standardized fashion in line with best practices. The incumbent should have a continuous improvement mindset and picture how models can be optimized to move modeling from Excel to a cloud application.

Treasury

The person will be actively involved in Treasury’s day-to day operations such as cash management, funding/hedging of BDC’s asset portfolio, BDC’s Pension Fund oversight and BDC’s base rates changes. The individual will also be involved in preparing documentation and presentations for Management committees. He/she will also be involved in Treasury projects. As such, a creative mindset and project management skills are expected.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

Modeling

• Design, create and implement financial models for the purpose of preparing and ing quantitatively and qualitatively for the corporate plan and budget.

• Prepare forecasts models and run scenarios to support BDC’s strategic planning process, as well as to provide key insights to management and executives.

• Work with Business Partners and FP&A Senior Analyst to design, create and implement financial models from the ground up for new business ventures and initiatives.

• Understand the current forecasting models’ environment (models purpose, relations between models,…) and propose solutions to optimize the models’ environment to create efficiency.

• Develop a comprehensive documentation for each financial model. Financial models should be clearly documented for ease of use and understandability.

• Determine and develop internal database requirements for the various models created and ensure data maintenance and integrity.

• Develop ways to derive timely information from all available databases.

• Keep abreast of modeling best practices and make recommendations for improvement.

• Prepare & optimize models to move modeling from Excel to a cloud application (Workday Adaptive Planning).

Treasury

• Determine and execute daily borrowings with the Bank of Canada by projecting and monitoring BDC’s cash flow needs.

• Monitor the asset mix of the Pension Fund and make any recommendations to comply with the investment policy.

• Participate in developing and updating funding strategies for the loan portfolio to protect the profitability of the Bank, by gathering and analyzing various financial and economic data.

• Execute transactions on the financial markets for managing BDC’s short-term investments.

• Negotiate and transact interest rates and foreign currency derivatives on the financial markets as required to mitigate some financial risks.

• Prepare and design presentations and s for the Asset Liability Committee and Management Pension Funds Investment Committee.

• As required, improve and develop treasury management systems and ing.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting

• Five years of experience in financial modeling

• Strong modeling skills and advanced knowledge of Excel

• Ability to create financial models from the ground up to support new business ventures

• Proactivity, autonomy, entrepreneurial mindset. Able to generate new ideas and improve existing processes

• Good ability to learn and challenge status-quo

• High ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Ability to handle ambiguous situations and quickly understand new concepts

• Bilingualism in English and French, orally and in writing

Icing on the cake

• Title of accountant of the CPA order or CFA level I

• Knowledge of the financial services sector

• Knowledge of the Workday Adaptive Planning application

• Experience in transacting on financial markets (money market, capital market, currency and their derivatives)

• Knowledge of Excel/VBA, Matlab, R, Python or any coding experience

• Treasury front/mid/back office experience

• Knowledge of Bloomberg
