Software Engineer – Payment Systems
Your division
Bankwest’s Technology & Transformation division develops and executes all technical change within the organisation; ensuring the strategic leverage of technology to deliver the Bankwest strategy. The division works on a wide variety of technologies and projects with the support of a dedicated team and the Agile methodology.
Your team
The Card Systems team is responsible for the running, maintenance and change management of Bankwest’s Credit Card mainframe application – Base 2000. The team comprises of software engineers, system administrators and quality engineers, who work closely with stakeholders to deliver quality solutions for our Credit Card portfolio, as well as other stakeholders within Bankwest. We maintain a very high standard of quality to ensure that our application is secure, healthy and highly available.
Your impact & contribution
You have technical accountability for one or more software applications or platforms. You work with your team to design and deliver high quality solutions for our card system, whilst ensuring that you have a risk mindset in everything that you do. The importance of your work will have a large impact on Bankwest’s bottom line and will assist in continuing to maintain and build our cards portfolio.
Your reporting line
Reports to Engineering Team Leader. Software Engineers, Technical Leads and Quality Engineers are also a part of your squad, and report to the Engineering Team Leader role.
Your responsibilities

Design and develop secure, quality solutions for Credit Card application.
Maintain strong awareness of software engineering and delivery practices.
Work with your direct team members and stakeholders to ensure that business requirements are clearly defined, and that solutions adhere to best practices, security non-negotiables and architectural direction.
Be part of a collaborative engineering team, promoting best engineering principles and practices.
Manage risk for processes and technology within your remit.
Contribute to team engagement.
Attend and contribute to agile ceremonies and Bankwest’s ways of working.
Your skills & experience
Software development experience with Cobol and PL/1, VSAM file system
Experience with Base 2000 card system would be highly regarded, as well as any other payments or cards experience
Risk management/mindset – all Bankwest employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks.
Your qualifications
Tertiary qualifications relating to Software Engineering or similar ITC disciplines.
