BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER + CONSUMER LENDER
Overview:
Becoming a Business Development Officer/Consumer Lender at BankSouth is an exciting opportunity to develop new business and enhance existing business relationships by meeting the product and service needs of clients and prospects, utilize a consultative sales process that includes analyzing cash flow and operations structuring client-specific cash management solutions and formulating sales and presentation strategies to achieve goals and increase fee income. Our Business Development Officers/Consumer Lenders will utilize general business knowledge and knowledge of department-related financial services regulations, market research analysis techniques, and the Bank’s products and services with further expertise in banking and associated products. Our Business Development Officer/Consumer Lender will also propose, initiate, and oversee consumer loans and all deposit programs (both business and consumer) provided by the company; assure that lending and deposit activities of the company meet the needs of the customers; and ensure compliance with all organizational policy and regulatory requirements. In addition, they must administer appropriate policies to minimize risk to the organization.
Responsibilities:
Marketing:
– Maintain an effective, active, and volume-driven calling effort to develop new business with existing and prospective clients
– Advise client/prospect on consumer loans, cash management, product selection and account structuring
– Proactively cross sell and refer all appropriate Bank products and services such as Loans, Deposit, Merchant, Business Banking and Personal Banking services
– Partner with BankSouth Mortgage for referrals and cross sell all bank products to existing and new mortgage customers
– Partner with marketing to formulate client-specific marketing strategies for assigned territory
– Grow new deposit/loan relationships within the market
Community Involvement:
– Involvement in activities within the assigned territory to help increase new business opportunities and be a strong community partner
– Respond to requests for proposals, formulating strategies necessary to win bids and achieve targeted risk adjusted returns on the relationship in partnership with the Market President
– Prepare and present professionally written and well-articulated proposals, recommending products and services that would be of value to the prospective client/prospect
– Other client contact responsibilities as needed within the assigned territory
Sales and Follow Up:
– Maintain a scheduled calling program for existing clients to ensure high quality servicing and identify additional needs to enhance relationships
– Make cold calls individually or jointly with other Partners, Relationship Managers, Senior or Executive Management as needed
– Maintain documentation of sales process to ensure complete sales coverage of the assigned territory and monitor/ progress in achieving sales and performance goals.
Aggressive new business development activities:
– Network with other professionals
– Cross sell consumer loans and core deposit products on an ongoing basis
– Work prospect lists
– Attend sales meetings
– Participate in joint customer calls
Credit quality and underwriting:
– Participate in internal and external product and Industry training
– Aggressively maintain targeted past-due percentages with calls, letters, and appropriate follow up
– Continuously monitor & implement current loan guidelines and thresholds
Loan structure/pricing activities, Including:
– Proactive, offensive knowledge of what the competition Is offering
– Respond to customer requests/opportunities timely and with appropriate product offerings and solutions
– Demonstrate initiative and follow through on goals and objectives.
Loan and Deposit Production:
– Ongoing engagement with loan and deposit sales team to produce new relationships
– Prepare and present loans for consideration/approval at Loan Committee meetings
Key Results Areas:
– Meet or exceed all company and personal production volumes and goals for loans, deposits, and fees.
– Meet or exceed all pricing and fee income goals
– Meet or exceed all credit quality and other underwriting criteria
– Maintain an open, active, and aggressive new loan and deposit referral pipeline
Experience & Education:
Minimum of two (2) years of directly applicable experience including direct customer contact; demonstrated use or knowledge of cash management and electronic banking systems; demonstrated sales and marketing skills. College degree and equivalent work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Has experience interpreting lending policies and procedures, including State and Federal lending regulations as well as underwriting guidelines. Is an experienced negotiator. Intermediate experience, knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and/or credit analysis or related areas. Basic knowledge of commercial, and construction loan operations.
Other Requirements:
Satisfactorily complete all required compliance training and compliance with all laws and regulations that apply based on the scope of this position.

Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring, which commonly require shorter discussions.
Physical Requirements:
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work environment with moderate noise.
Mental and/or Emotional Requirements:
Must be able to perform job functions independently and with limited supervision. Must work effectively as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic financial calculations with accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under stress of deadline, requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
