Our Maritime Services Business

We support the Royal Navy and our international clients in the design and manufacture of naval ships and submarines, including their state of the art combat systems and equipment.

As part of the Maritime Services team, you’ll play an important part in our supply and production. We design and build a full range of naval ships – from offshore patrol vessels through to giant aircraft carriers. And we provide the Royal Navy with its most advanced and powerful attack submarine fleet. Systems Engineer

Would you like to play a key role in the development of training systems within the Royal Navy? We currently have a vacancy for a Systems Engineer at our site in Portsmouth.

As a Systems Engineer, you will be applying the principals of systems engineering development lifecycle for requirements definition to system integration and customer acceptance into system support and disposal. The systems you will be working on are software intensive systems to support the synthetic training and simulation for the Royal Navy.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a large team creating simulation systems to be used a virtual warship training tool for the Royal Navy. Within this large team there are potential development opportunities, with the ability to progress down either a people management route or within your own chosen specialism.

Your main responsibilities as a Systems Engineer will involve:

• Apply systems engineering principals of ISO 15288 to support the design of systems for the Royal Navy, through the entire engineering lifecycle from requirement definition to system integration and customer acceptance into system support and disposal.
• Technical accountability for tasks and provide guidance to systems engineers.
• Discern and decompose requirements to system and sub-systems level and manage these in an approved toolset such as IBM DOORS.
• Undertake systems design and modelling to subsystem level including associated external and internal interfaces and manage models in toolsets such as Cameo Systems Modeller.
• Assist with technical reviews, systems integration, test planning and execution.
• Maintain a good working knowledge of systems engineering practices including model-based engineering, digital threads, cyber security and safety procedures.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

• Understanding of engineering principles and approaches underpinning design and development activities and be capable of systems thinking, applying holistic approaches to complex problems.
• Knowledge and experience of systems engineering.
• Educated to degree level (or equivalent qualification/experience) in relevant STEM subject.
• Team Leader/management experience.

Desirable:

• Experience of presenting both technical and non-technical information in a formal setting.
• Experience of working with contemporary technologies and concepts e.g. AR/VR, AI/ML, autonomy, IoT, digital twins, MBSE etc.
• Experience of some aspects of the engineering lifecycle and awareness of lifecycle models (e.g. Waterfall, Agile) and associated tools (e.g JIRA).
• Awareness of high-level design methodology (SysML) and appropriate system engineering standards (ISO 15288)
