Your main responsibilities as a Firefighter will involve:

• Responding immediately and safely to emergency calls and requests for assistance
• Attending emergency incidents including fires, road accidents, floods, terrorist incidents, spillages of dangerous substances, and air crashes
• Rescuing trapped people
• Minimising distress and suffering, including giving first aid before ambulance crews arrive
• Safeguarding your own and other people’s personal safety at all times
• Cleaning up and checking the site after dealing with an incident
• Taking time to become familiar with on-site buildings and hazards so you can respond to emergency calls with speed and efficiency
• Maintaining and testing the appliance (fire engine) and its equipment
• Undertaking scenario based practical exercises and core skill training as part of your development and maintenance of operational competence
• Maintaining the level of physical fitness necessary to carry out all the duties of a firefighter
• Educating and informing employees to promote fire safety

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

• Experience within a working environment demonstrating our behaviours required
• Physically fit and able to undertake fitness test before offer and continue to take annual fitness tests in line with NFCC/BAESS guidance to perform your duties in this role

Desirable:

• HGV Class C Licence
• Emergency Fire Service Operations in the Community – NVQ Level 3
• Trainee Firefighter Development Programme

The Firefighter Team:

Would you like to work as a Firefighter carrying out a diverse range of fire safety and rescue activities contributing towards the safe build of nuclear submarines? We currently have several vacancies for Firefighters at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a Firefighter, you will be responsible for the timely and safe response to emergency calls and requests for assistance, whilst ensuring our firefighting equipment is monitored, maintained and fit for purpose.

This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to join a rapidly growing team offering a wide range of in-house development as well as recognised further education. You will have the opportunity to progress your career into the Crew Commander and Watch Commander roles.
