In this role you will deliver key advice and support to our colleagues on matters spanning the broad spectrum of HR including attendance management, reasonable adjustment requests, performance management and probation.
As an HR Advisor you will work both as part of a team lead by one of our HR Business Partners and as part of the wider HR Advisory Team. You will have the opportunity to get involved in providing critical support and guidance in managing a wide range of employee relations matters, policy application and employee lifecycle processes. You will also be able to get involved in a wide variety of projects; working both collaboratively as part of a team of professionals and taking independent initiative to deliver advice and promote best practice. You will work in partnership with HR colleagues, line managers, employees and senior leaders; acting as a subject matter expert to enable the right outcomes in a timely and effective way. This is balanced with the opportunity to shape processes, policies and systems that enable all of our people to reach their full potential, in order that we deliver outstanding policing services for those living within the Avon and Somerset area.

We are committed to the development of our team and this role provides the opportunity to move amongst different portfolios within the team to enable you to develop a well-rounded generalist HR skill-set across different operating areas and HR disciplines.
In this role, your main responsibilities will be:
Providing advice, guidance and support to managers on the effective management of key employee issues such as performance, attendance, capability, probation and misconduct. Ensuring that the service provided champions our organisational values of Caring, Inclusive, Learning and Courageous.
Supporting HR-related projects; acting as a subject matter expert in relation to our service delivery and best HR practice
Support the implementation of new policies and systems, including research, engagement with colleagues and communicating changes
Taking an active part in HR processes including attendance, capability and reasonable adjustment requests as appropriate, advising management of the opportunities available and promoting consistent management practice.
Skills, experience and qualifications required:
Experience of working in a customer-focused HR environment, providing information and general advice (or Level 3 CIPD qualified)
Effective interpersonal communication skills; able to influence others and adapt to different settings
Ability to work with a high degree of interruptions and demands for advice, cope with competing deadlines and deal positively with change
Ability to work independently and under own initiative to deliver effective advice and guidance; taking responsibility for delivering results and identifying opportunities for innovation
To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years.
