About the role

Our Finance Services team are looking for a Cost & Finance Services Analyst to support the continued growth of the squad and provide analysis and insight to the Cost Manager and wider Finance services team.

Your data and insights will help us progress forward ensuring that business expenditure is both well-controlled and provide the best possible value in supporting the delivery of business objectives.

In this forward-thinking analytical role, you will look at forecasting, planning, risk, and spot commercial opportunities. Using a range of internal systems, you will extract data from different sources, demonstrating a passion for data and innovative modelling.

The main functions of the role will be report building and data interpretation, ad hoc analysis, assisting with forecasting and reviewing expenditures including but not limited to, marketing, cost of sales, and technology overheads.

Working closely with the Cost Manager, the role provides a great opportunity to be introduced to and support cost business partnering (including forecasting) across the whole of AutoTrader. You’ll deliver timely, accurate and insightful analysis to a wide range of stakeholders – including but not limited to Finance Leadership, Finance Services squad leads, and budget holders across the business.

There will also be a requirement for ad hoc analysis, requiring a flexible mindset to deliver at peak times such as business plan submission and half-year cost review.

We’re searching for someone who understands the importance of data to aid decision-making within the Finance Operations environment. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential, as well as the desire to identify new opportunities for enhanced reporting and automation.

Key responsibilities include:

• Reporting and analysing trends on key P&L expenditure lines – including but not limited to, cost of sales, marketing, and overheads
• Partnering the Finance Services squad leads through developing an understanding of the data needs of Collections, Payroll, Data Governance & Core Services (AP, AR and cash & bank)
• Supporting the Cost Manager with further ad hoc analysis and forecasting
• Collaborate with the Management Accounts teams to understand the monthly accounting entries within the cost accounts of the P&L and balance sheet.

What we’re looking for

• Advanced Excel skills, with experience modelling data.
• Understanding of cost accounting (accruals and pre-payments, working capital management
• A proactive approach and a problem-solving, commercial mindset.
• Communication skills to articulate and present the storytelling behind the data, this could be via PowerPoint and/or other data visualisation tools
• Experience using Finance and data platforms/systems such as a billing system, CRM and/or general ledger systems.
• Track record of delivering timely, accurate and insightful analysis to stakeholders
