The Position

The successful candidate will become a member of the Department of Materials Physics within the Research School of Physics (RSPhys). The Department hosts the National Laboratory for micro-Computed Tomography (CTLab) as well as the ARC Training Centre for Multiscale 3D Imaging, Modelling and Manufacturing (M3D Innovation). For over 15 years, imaging-science researchers in the Department have produced ground-breaking 3D X-ray microscopy technology and applied it to achieving new understanding in the materials, biological and earth sciences (e.g., Biomedical implants, additive manufacturing and carbon capture and storage).

The research program is built on innovative high-performance software for data acquisition, tomographic image reconstruction and data analysis, developed by a small team of scientists and software engineers.

The successful candidate will work within this team, leading the management and development of software for automated processing and remote visualisation and analysis of large 3D data sets stored on the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) parallel filesystems, and assisting in the development and maintenance of automated data pipelines. The goal is to create an efficient data ecosystem that enables researchers to efficiently interact with the world-class data produced from CTLab.

The Person

We are looking for an enthusiastic software developer, or researcher with software development experience, with skills in C++, python and/or JavaScript, and experience in the handling and/or visualisation of scientific data. The successful candidate should have experience in at least one of the following areas:

• Linux systems administration and management of automated data pipeline)
• Development or deployment of web services
• 3D visualisation of scientific data.
• HPC software, including parallel software tools.
