The Finance Business Partner is responsible for ensuring and maintaining the integrity of the Museum’s financial management information, systems and processes. The role will work alongside the museum to assist with setting budgets and KPIs, understanding its financial performance, formulating strategies to achieve business targets, and improving its ability to forecast future performance.

The role will also help to deliver effective financial management, control and advisory support through actively contributing to process review and improvement and monitoring of compliance with museum policies and procedures, accounting standards and other regulatory requirements.

Ideal applicants will have:

• Able to work closely with, provide advice to, and influence, divisional leaders to drive business performance and ensure high quality financial decisions are made.
• Identify and drive financial efficiency with divisional management, ensuring that the division allocates resources effectively with rigorous pressure on costs and a commitment to a value-for-money approach.
• Investigate opportunities as well as high risk and material financial issues, or problem areas, with the business and develop and propose solutions and options to resolve/progress concerns to a satisfactory outcome.
• In collaboration with the Head of Finance, Finance Business Partner (Experience) and divisional leaders, develop whole-of-museum forward estimates, annual operating and capital budgets, and KPIs. Throughout the year, use the finance forecasting process to analyse and develop insightful commentary on divisional and museum-wide performance, reflecting key business issues and accurately forecasting expected year end results.
• Develop ad-hoc analysis to support divisional business initiatives, decision making and costings.
• Support month and year-end finance processes including general ledger transaction review, journals, reconciliations, variance investigation and KPI reporting, and meeting of audit requirements.
• Promote good financial discipline and risk management processes including meeting of finance timelines and deliverables, to ensure good cost control and cost management.
• Drive continuous improvements in the Museum’s financial management and accounting practices.
• Manage Commonwealth Government and other finance-related reporting requirements including Commonwealth Budget Management System (CBMS) input, responses to Departmental questions on notice, quarterly KPI reporting, preparation of financial data for the museum’s Annual Report, and other reporting as required.
• Collaborate with the Technology section to deliver impactful business system upgrades and replacements.
• Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure strong relationships which deliver successful financial outcomes.
• Provide regular assistance to the Finance Team, including the CFO and Head of Finance on a variety of financial matters.
• Model good leadership to inspire direction and delivery, develop people, and drive change.
• Fulfil the key competencies of the classification of this position as defined and described by the Integrated Leadership System (ILS).
