Australian National Maritime Museum Hiring for Assistant Accountant Job at Sydney Full Time

As one of Sydney’s most visited museums, the Australian National Maritime Museum (the Museum) is committed to being a world leader in maritime history. The Museum shares the national maritime story across Australia (our country) and provides must-visit museum experiences that explore our country’s connection to the sea.

The Museum welcomes local, interstate and international visitors as well as 13,000 members, over 30,000 school students and a group of passionate volunteers. Combined, they regularly enjoy special events, activities and participate in the Museums special educational programs.

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for preparing monthly and annual financial reports and reconciliations and for leading and developing the Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable team on a day-to-day basis. The role identifies opportunities for process improvements within the finance department and develops and implements improvements.

The position will also take ownership of work required to meet the Museum’s financial outcomes and objectives.

Ideal candidates will have:

• Recognised tertiary qualifications in Finance or Accounting and/or equivalent workplace experience.
• CPA or CA qualifications.
• Sound knowledge and experience of financial software and other specialised applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively, lead and supervise staff.
• Be well-organised, able to manage multiple deadlines in the team, be accurate and have attention to detail, and be committed to producing quality outcomes in a timely manner.
• The ability to undertake research and implement process and system improvements and be supportive of organisational change.
• Experience in financial planning, data analysis and business intelligence within a complex environment, working with a variety of financial and non-financial stakeholders.

Desirable:

• Experience in working in the commonwealth government environments is highly desirable.
• Knowledge and understanding of APS Values & Code of Conduct and commitment to workplace diversity WHS and working in a team environment.

Selection for this position will be made on the basis of relative merit which will be assessed against each item of the selection criteria.
