Forensic Accountant roles within the Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce (CACT) are currently assigned to the Operations working pattern and receive a Core Composite of 22% of their Base Salary which will count as salary for superannuation. Additional conditions include 6 weeks annual leave per year and 2 mandatory rest days to be utilised per six month period.

Role Summary
As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
The roles are more generally deployed to work within the Criminal Assets Confiscation Taskforce (CACT). The multi-agency CACT provides a coordinated and integrated approach to identifying and removing the profits derived from serious and organised criminal activity. Led by the AFP and utilising the resources from the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), Australian Taxation Office (ATO), the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC), and the Australian Border Force (ABF), the objective of the Taskforce is to disrupt, deter and reduce serious and organised crime by taking the profit out of crime.
The Assistant Forensic Accountant, Forensic Accountant and Senior Forensic Accountant positions provide appropriate professional advice and undertake necessary forensic accounting services during all phases of an investigation, prosecution and/or confiscation action to help identify the source of financial evidence; assist in its collection; direct and/or ensure its proper collation, synthesis and analysis to produce product, which can be relied upon to inform and shape the investigation and the legal decision making process.
Assistant Forensic Accountant – Band 6
Provision of financial expertise to assist in the conduct of financial investigations;
Interpretation, analysis and summary of financial transactions and arrangements for the purpose of supporting criminal and civil proceedings;
Competence in interpreting, analysing and presenting financial data, spreadsheets and reports using MS Office;
Reporting of findings to internal and external clients including investigators, management, litigators and prosecutors;
Assisting in the preparation of work practices, reports and evidence in compliance with professional accounting standards;
Assisting and undertaking financial investigations and forensic accounting services under guidance of a Senior Forensic Accountant;
In consultation with National Coordinator Forensic Accounting and their relevant Team Leader/supervisor, work under the oversight of a Senior Forensic Accountant when required;
Assisting with training design and delivery; and
Maintaining currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development in forensic accounting and financial investigations.
Forensic Accountant – Band 7
Provision of technical financial expertise to assist in the conduct and planning of financial investigations;
Interpretation, analysis and summary of financial transactions and arrangements for the purpose of supporting criminal and civil proceedings;
Competence in interpreting, analysing and presenting complex financial data, spreadsheets and reports using MS Office;
Reporting of findings to internal and external clients including investigators, management, litigators and prosecutors;
Preparation of work practices, reports and presentation of lay and expert evidence before the courts in compliance with professional accounting standards, specifically APES 215 and relevant judicial requirements;
Undertake complex forensic accounting services under minimal guidance of a Senior Forensic Accountant;
In consultation with National Coordinator Forensic Accounting and their relevant Team Leader/supervisor, work under the oversight of a Senior Forensic Accountant when required;
Assisting with training design and delivery; and
Maintaining currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development in forensic accounting and financial investigations.
Senior Forensic Accountant – Band 8
Provision of high level technical financial expertise to assist in the planning, coordination and conduct of financial investigations;
Interpretation, analysis and summary of highly complex financial transactions and arrangements for the purpose of supporting criminal and civil proceedings;
Competence in interpreting, analysing and presenting complex financial data, spreadsheets and reports using MS Office;
Reporting of findings to internal and external clients including investigators, management, litigators and prosecutors;
Preparation of work practices, reports and presentation of lay and expert evidence before the courts in compliance with professional accounting standards, specifically APES 215 and relevant judicial requirements;
Independently undertake complex forensic accounting services;
In consultation with National Coordinator Forensic Accounting and their relevant Team Leader/supervisor, oversight the work of Assistant Forensic Accountants and Forensic Accountants when required;
Provide professional guidance and develop the professional capability of Assistant Forensic Accountants, Forensic Accountants and team members by fulfilling a consultatory, mentoring and advisory role;
Conducting peer review engagements to ensure standard of work adheres to professional accountancy standards;
Assisting in the development and implementation of professional training programs; and
Maintain currency in subject matter expertise through ongoing professional development in forensic accounting.
Essential Requirements
All roles:
A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one;
Tertiary qualification in accountancy or commerce; and
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in auditing, financial investigations or financial analysis.
Forensic Accountant:
Membership with a recognised professional accounting body (i.e. CA/CPA/Institute of Public Accountants); and
Forensic accounting technical knowledge, expertise and skills.
Senior Forensic Accountant:
Membership with a recognised professional accounting body (i.e. CA/CPA/Institute of Public Accountants);
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in leading the planning, execution and reporting of forensic accounting engagements; and
High level forensic accounting technical knowledge, expertise and skills.
Desirable Requirements
All roles:
Certificate IV in Government Investigations; and
Knowledge of the cryptocurrency regulatory environment and expertise in tracing cryptocurrency.
Assistant Forensic Accountant:
Forensic accounting technical knowledge, expertise and skills;
Demonstrate an understanding of undertaking forensic accounting engagements and providing expert evidence; and
Hold membership, or in the process of obtaining Membership, with a recognised professional accounting body (i.e. CA/CPA/Institute of Public Accountants).
Forensic Accountant:
Demonstrate an ability and understanding of undertaking forensic accounting engagements and providing expert evidence;
Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Audit, Taxation, Insolvency or other related business fields; and
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Senior Forensic Accountant:
Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Audit, Taxation, Insolvency or other related business fields; and
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
