Your New Role

Private Markets are an imperative in our overall growth strategy. ing directly into the Chief Investment Officer you’ll be responsible for the development, delivery and execution of the private markets investment strategies at Australian Ethical including the origination, evaluation, selection and execution of private markets investment opportunities (both direct equity and through external funds). You will identify and secure partnerships with external fund managers, which contribute directly toward the accomplishment of that growth strategy. You’re adept at working across an organisation to achieve impactful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Developing the investment strategy for the private markets portfolio, including growth alternatives, defensive alternatives and unlisted property with a focus on investment performance and growth of funds under management
• Establish performance forecast and risk objectives, ensuring adequate systems and / or processes are in place to regularly and adequately monitor performance against these
• Origination and execution of direct equity investment opportunities in the alternative space
• Origination, evaluation and selection and management of partnerships with specialist alternatives managers (both domestically and offshore)
• Lead strategic private markets new product initiatives
• Provide internal thought leadership in private markets
• Provide market leadership on behalf of Australian Ethical in Private Markets, including participation in presentations and press commentary
• Be a key member of the Investment Leadership Team and a proactive participant at the Investment Committee
• Prepare and present strategy updates, new products and other investment s to the Investment Committee as required

What we’re looking for

You’re an astute Private Markets professional with an impeccable track record leading a Private Markets growth strategy in highly regarded organisation(s). You’ll confidently manage both strategic and operational priorities with a curious, considered and opportunistic approach. In addition to portfolio management expertise you’ll leverage your direct corporate transaction experience, and well established network of contacts. If you have the following, we’d love to hear from you:

• 15+ years’ experience in private markets including portfolio management experience in infrastructure (economic and social), property, energy markets and/ or venture capital
• Experience leading a successful growth investment strategy in private markets, including new products and funds
• Direct involvement in corporate transactions / mergers and acquisitions
• Experience with Board representations, investment committees, investor advisory committees
• A well established network within Private Markets
• Domestic and global experience
• Understanding of ESG trends, risks
• Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills including strong influencing and conflict resolution skills
• Demonstrated leadership experience, in markets and/or of people
• Relevant tertiary qualifications
• Strong alignment with the Australian Ethical culture and values of Wisdom, Authenticity, Action and Empathy
