The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The Team
The National Training and Education Unit (NTEU) is a specialist team of skilled practitioners in the field of training and education with extensive electoral experience. The Unit is responsible for the delivery of high quality training, development and education that professionalises the AEC’s workforce and builds knowledge of electoral processes in our stakeholders.
Electoral Educators / Trainers support the provision of AEC training and education programs within the National Training and Education Unit, including program delivery at the National Electoral Education Centre (NEEC) located at Old Parliament House, Canberra. The NEEC is the flagship of the AEC’s current education program offering and welcomes schools from across Australia who visit Canberra institutions as part of annual civics and citizenship excursions. In non-COVID-19 periods, the NEEC accommodates approximately 95,000 in-person visitors annually (primarily year 5 and 6 students). The NEEC is also exploring the development of digital education program options such as live-streamed and pre-recorded virtual education sessions.
The Opportunity
As an Electoral Educator / Trainer you will be responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex in nature, under general direction, utilising practical expertise within the area of education and training. This includes regular delivery of face-to-face education programs, administrative tasks and contributing to program development.
You will present education sessions about Australia’s federal electoral system and facilitate engaging learning activities for in-person visitors to the NEEC. This will include planning and preparing for the delivery of training and education programs, including setting up the learning area, ensuring all appropriate resources are available, tailoring presentations to the audience as appropriate, and ensuring technology is working appropriately and ready prior to the commencement of a session.
You will also contribute to the continual development, implementation and evaluation of our training and educational programs ensuring inclusive and modern educational techniques are utilised. From time-to-time, you may also perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed by the Management team.
