Who we are
The Finance Division supports the department to be efficient, effective and financially sustainable through our business partnerships, the Finance Service Charter and our specialist centres of excellence. The division provides financial and management advice and support to the department, the offices of the minister and assistant ministers and to industry stakeholders. The division delivers on business objectives through the provision of high quality customer service, advice and support and a nationally consistent approach to business, with consideration to the government’s tight fiscal environment, its significant reform agenda and the department’s imperative to maintain financial sustainability.

The Financial Management Branch is responsible for: treasury, taxation and government loans; financial accounting including financial statements and monthly government reporting; internal budgeting, asset management and financial reporting; and divisional finance support.

Business Partners are responsible for strategic financial management including analysis, advice, reporting and support for divisions within the various operational groups of the department.

The Jobs
Your role as an Assistant Director (EL1) in the Finance Division would include:

• building and sustaining relationships with stakeholders and subject matter experts, both internal and external, to deliver financial management outcomes
• providing high-level financial management support and advice, budget preparation and financial performance monitoring and reporting
• assessing and evaluating financial management strategy, initiatives, projects, policy and procedures and identify innovation and continuous improvement opportunities
• managing and leading a diverse team in the delivery of high quality service and outcomes, including providing clear and consistent communication, and building capability in your team and across the department
• managing financial governance requirements and compliance with the financial management framework.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience

• Experience building and maintaining relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in undertaking complex financial analysis and providing advice to executives.
• Experience in leading stakeholders through change working collaboratively across an organisation and externally.

Skills and capabilities

• Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate complex financial matters to a range of stakeholders with varying degrees of financial literacy.
