The Bureau’s Science and Innovation Group delivers world-class research and development enabling the Bureau to deliver better climate, oceans, water, weather and earth system prediction information and insights to its customers. The Research to Operations Program (R2O) is one of two programs within the Science and Innovation Group. It brings science into practice by accelerating the transfer of research into real-world application. A key focus for R2O is to deliver impact and value for the Bureau’s customers by transferring into operations our numerical models and analytic and processing systems that require high-performance computing and data.

Team Leaders in R2O lead function-based teams that deliver reliable numerical models, software and other products to support the Bureau’s operational weather, climate, water and marine services. Team Leaders contribute to innovation and scientific excellence to develop and maintain impact-based services that put customers at the centre of Bureau operations. As a member of R2O’s Extended Leadership Team, Team Leaders also play an important role in shaping and delivering on the annual R2O Program Plan, Science and Innovation Group Plan, and the Bureau’s Research and Development Plan 2020-2030.

Successful candidates will be passionate about providing leadership to small teams, will thrive in a technology driven environment, and be motivated about working in partnership with other business units in the Bureau to deliver operational excellence for our customers.

The Team Leader roles will suit applicants with outstanding communication skills, and who have a high degree of initiative and ability to self-manage. Experience establishing strong working relationships and employing a consultative and influencing approach are essential.
