The Bureau is seeking an experienced ICT storage and backup engineer to take day-to-day responsibility for the support, configuration and maintenance of our enterprise storage and backup systems. This includes Commvault backup, storage and data protection technologies for Windows/Linux, VMWare, and Enterprise Storage (SAN/NAS) arrays in Bureau Datacentres. Specifically; Storage Area Networks (FC-CISCO), disk arrays (EMC Unity), tape libraries (StorageTek SL3000 and StorageTek SL8500) and network attached storage (Oracle ZFS/ZFSSA) and software solutions (Commvault backup, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager). The occupant of this position will be a member of a small team of systems and storage specialists responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Bureau’s data storage systems in all capital cities.

Our ideal candidate will be able to work under limited direction (in-line with the APS capabilities for the EL1 work level) with competing requirements in consultation with the Midrange Infrastructure manager. They will display initiative in recommending improvements to systems and processes and provide assurance that critical backup and storage systems are maintained to a high standard. They will have demonstrated experience with the above systems, primarily in Commvault backup solutions. They will be able to research new technologies and have a co-operative approach to the provision of advice and practical assistance to non-storage systems specialists.

As a matter of Australian government policy, due to the nature of privileged access to critical systems required by this role the successful candidate must be willing and able to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance (sponsored by the Bureau). Participation in a 24×7 on-call support roster is required. There may be a requirement for occasional interstate and/or overseas travel for short periods. Occasional work in a managed datacentre environment under guidance from the Datacentre management team may be required.
