The Research Program delivers world-class research aligned with the Bureau Strategy and R&D?Plan enabling the Bureau to deliver better weather, water, climate, oceans and earth system predictions information and insights and innovations.

The Bureau of Meteorology owns and operates a large network of weather radars across Australia. The Radar Science Team within the Observations and Data Science Section of the Research Program is responsible for researching, developing and maintain operational tools to monitoring and processing weather radar data and generate radar-based products that fulfil requirements of internal and external users.

The Scientific Software Engineer will contribute with the development of new and maintenance of existing weather radar related scientific and operational systems. The Scientific Software Engineer is expected to work closely with other software engineers and radar scientists of the Radar Science Team, and to communicate results at regular intervals with internal and external users.

The Radar Science Team engages with water, weather, and insurance industries to identify problems and develop technologies that could benefit the Bureau’s services and its customers.
