High Impact Weather team undertakes research and development to better understand and predict dangerous weather phenomena, ranging from tropical cyclones to heavy rainfall and flash flooding through to fire weather. Team activities range from research to improve underpinning meteorological knowledge of the behaviour of high impact weather systems, to development of applications enhancing prediction of high impact weather phenomena and communication of the results of these activities.
The position holder will lead development of scientific and technical solutions to address gaps in understanding of high impact weather and specific weather events. They will also lead development of improvements in applications to predict high impact weather and climate events. Their work will include close collaboration with other members of High Impact Weather team and Research more broadly in undertaking science and scientific programming developing applications.
