Career Discovery and Success seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Director, Exploratory Academic Advising to join our team to lead and support the University’s strategic goals for student achievement.

The Exploration Center within Career Discovery and Success supports academic and career exploration, planning, and decision-making. The Exploration Center is a foundational contributor to student success and provides essential programs and services to all students, along with specific programs, services, and academic courses for those students who identify as exploratory.
As a leader within the Exploration Center, the Assistant Director, under the supervision of the Director and in coordination with other Assistant Directors, builds student services and programs while leading a team of professionals in setting bold goals and making innovative plans to establish intentional, outcome-driven student support. These leadership efforts foster opportunities for career and academic exploration, planning, and competency development. Through their work, the Assistant Director expands the coordinated support between exploratory academic advisors and career counselors, develops strategic engagement and communication across functional teams within Career Discovery and Success and across the Auburn University Advisor Caucus and Career Services Network to enhance exploration opportunities and the sharing accurate major and career information to support strategic departmental, division-wide, and university initiatives.

Essential Functions
Manages daily operations related to Major Exploration and Academic Advising practice within The Exploration Center, a functional and interdependent unit within Career Discovery and Success.
Provides supervision and training for exploratory academic advisors, who may provide supervision to graduate assistants and student workers. Works with the Assistant Director of Career Exploration to cross-train exploratory career counselors and academic advisors.
Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Career Exploration and the Director of Exploration Center by assisting in establishing and implementing policies and procedures related to individual and group major exploration and academic advising.
Supports the development of new major exploration and academic advising programs and services related to strategic initiatives.
Oversees the planning and coordination of referral and advising processes for at-risk students across Auburn’s colleges.
Advises a mixed caseload of exploratory majors and students who have been referred to the Exploration Center, teaches at a minimum one section of EXPL 1010 as lead instructor/instructor of records each year, and supports the development of course curriculum and supervision of co-instructors each semester.
Assists in collecting and reporting activity, satisfaction, and outcomes data in collaboration with the Director on a semester and annual basis. Works with the Director of the Exploration Center and Assistant Director of Career Exploration to support the development of an evaluation plan and possible research agenda related to major and career exploration, academic advising, and related programs and services to provide accountability, continual improvement, and demonstration of best practices.
Serves as liaison to academic advising units in the colleges, student support offices, and other constituencies to enhance collaborations that support student success.
Plans and conducts orientation sessions for new exploratory majors, in collaboration with the Director of The Exploration Center, and occasionally delivers education programs to community groups and agencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
Education Level Masters Degree
Field of Study
Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Business, Liberal Arts, or related field. Ph.D. preferred.
