Here at Global Engineering and Real Estate (GERE) we do a lot of different and exciting things! As part of our delivery we scope, plan and implement major capital projects across all AstraZeneca sites. A major part of the role will be to support and drive the digital transformation of our assets as we implement industry 4.0 technologies to establish Smart Factories.
By putting next-generation assets on the ground, the team is playing a fundamental role in supporting AstraZeneca’s strong pipeline. Combining the use of the newest technologies, skilled program management and a mixture of engineering and construction expertise, the team establishes strong and positive partnerships with end customers to build facilities which match requirements and exceed expectations.
As a Global Automation Engineer you’ll be one of many specialists within the Global Engineering Technical Services team who provide a range of services to all parts of AstraZeneca’s business:
Engineering technology stewardship
Identification, translation and delivery of engineering technologies
Product and process design and improvement
New asset provision
Existing asset improvement
Digital Solution Integration
Our team leads the technical definition and digital integration associated with, the pharmaceutical facility capital project delivery. Our multi-functional team also provides technical support to address process control and day to day operational problems.
What you’ll do:
Working as an Automation Engineer with GERE, you will design and deliver the technical aspects of Automation and IT Integration on a variety of capital projects. Working with key business users you will convert our business goals into technical solutions demonstrating influencing and technical leadership capabilities.
You’ll define core Automation and IT integration requirements on projects, communicating these requirements to vendors and ensuring that systems are specified and delivered in alignment with the global automation strategy. Further you will provide design assurance overview and technical feedback during capital project design – from concept through detailed design and equipment selection.
You will support Project Managers, Project Technical Managers and Work Package Owners during all phases of projects to include monitoring the flow of information between vendors, contractors and internal resources to deliver design intent and meet quality standards.
Essential for the role:
With proven experience in Automation/Control or a related area. You ideally hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and have good general understanding of IT Technologies (networks, servers, routing and enterprise wide IT applications) used in the operation and support of manufacturing equipment. To succeed in this role, you’ll have the ability to influence internal and external business leaders and partners.
In addition to this, below are some more specific requirements:
In-depth technical and operational knowledge of Automation systems (SCADA/PLC technologies), plant automation and laboratory automation systems
Chartered or Professional Licensed Engineer and 10 years of applicable work experience
Detailed knowledge of current GMP regulations and an understanding of regulatory agency expectations and current industry practices
Experience in the specification, procurement, installation, start up and commissioning of process automation systems in a licensed GMP commercial plant
Experience in a commercial pharmaceutical manufacturing or development environment
Knowledge of capital project delivery from case development through to project execution
Proven understanding of Industry 4.0 technologies, use cases & digital opportunities
As an active team member, your expertise may be needed at any of the AstraZeneca Manufacturing facilities, and we’ll need you to be able to travel internationally accordingly
Desirable requirements:
Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Electronic Batch Records (EBR) and Historian systems
Broad range of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing area’s including, Oral Solid Dosage, Packaging, Processing and API
