The Deal Finance team helps control the financial analysis, valuation, and structure of AstraZeneca’s external pipeline investing activities. The team is a highly centralized function and coordinates with external investment banking advisers, management consultants, private equity and venture capital professionals, and management from other companies across the full transaction cycle.

The Deal Finance M&A Analyst position is a career-track role and offers senior-level exposure, access to thought-leaders across the organization, and ample opportunity for personal and professional growth. Successful team members are given greater responsibility, with the ultimate goal of growing into a Manager-level position.

This role may consider Waltham-MA, Gaithersburg-MD, Cambridge-UK locations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Deal Finance is an integral part of AstraZeneca and participates in all aspects of the investment process, from initial screen and due diligence, to transaction closing and post-closing transition to AstraZeneca’s operational functions. The position responsibilities are as follows:

• Design, build, and maintain sophisticated financial models to perform analyses under different operating scenarios using inputs from management and research.
• Perform full valuation analyses, including DCF, SOTP, M&A, and comparable trading and precedent transaction studies.
• Help supervise and evaluate current events related to specific transactions.
• Help prepare investment presentations for AstraZeneca’s leadership, and stakeholders that highlight transaction risks and opportunities.
• Support the broader team with ad hoc analyses as necessary.

Qualifications

A sophisticated level of interpersonal skill is required for this role. High enthusiasm and passion about our mission and dedication to the patients and science is top priority. Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:

• 2-4 years of experience in a relevant role, including Corporate or Business Development, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, Management Consulting, or Investment Management. Experience in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology sector viewed favorably.
• Prior experience must include at least one (1) year crafting and building complex financial models and presentations to reflect financial projections, financing structures, and key structuring terms for transactions greater than $100 million.
• Proven financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills; including: discounted cash flow, three-statement models, and combined pro forma models.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of merger and acquisition structures, partnership structures, and licensing structures.
• Knowledge of capital markets and capital products.
• Experience with S&P Capital IQ.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. Master of Business Administration, Finance, or Economics viewed favorably.
• CFA Designation viewed favorably.
• Coursework in finance, accounting, economics, and strategic management strongly recommended.
