Aspira Inc of Illinois Hiring for High School Special Education Teacher Full Time

The Special Education Teacher provides services and support to students with disabilities according to the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP), state curriculum, instructional objectives, special education laws, mandates of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

ASPIRA SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER Essential Functions:

• Prepare lesson and unit plans, course objectives and outline for course of study following (IEP), curriculum guidelines and the school’s educational philosophy
• Instruct students using various teaching methods, such as project-based learning, lecture and demonstration, audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement instruction
• Obtain previous IEPs, review and evaluate to determine student needs for appropriate services and provide accommodations and modifications in the general education classroom and prepare s as required
• Monitor services administered by school and assess procedures to determine if program objectives are being met
• Schedule, coordinate and facilitate annual IEP and Full and Individual Evaluation (FIE) meetings as required
• Ensure that students receive the IEP accommodations on standardized tests and classroom assignments and assessments
• Confer with parents to discuss student progress, academics, attitudes and achievements and provide parents/guardians of students with IEPs the Procedural Safeguards at least once per year as mandated by law
• Collaborate with general education teachers on lesson and unit planning, instructional delivery for special needs students and on school initiatives to promote academic success
• Teach rules of conduct, maintain discipline in classroom and on campus and counsel students when adjustment and academic problems arise
• Maintain attendance, progress s and grade records as required
• Actively participate in faculty and professional meetings, open houses, parent conferences, educational conferences, training workshops and other related activities
• Explain special education programs and procedures and respond to general questions to parents of special needs students and staff members
• Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies
• Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field
• A minimum of one year of experience working with special education students
• Hold an IL Teaching certificate (ISBE verified)
• Hold a LBS1 endorsement
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent computer skills
• Bilingual – Spanish/English preferred
