Your team
ASIC’s Strategy Group is central to ASIC’s strategic direction and policy setting. We have four core teams: Strategic Intelligence, International Strategy, Strategic Policy, and the Behavioural Unit.
In Strategic Intelligence you will apply your research and analytical skills to understand products and markets, identify trends, and assess and evaluate risks.

Your role As an Economist, you will be required to:

• use economic and competition analysis to identify poor outcomes that may harm consumers in ASIC’s regulated markets
• undertake research on strategic and emerging threats to guide ASIC’s prioritisation and decision-making
• analyse a range of data and construct accessible, useful narratives from your findings
• scope, identify and establish appropriate research methodologies for individual research projects
• prepare reports, presentations, dashboards, briefings and correspondence on economic and financial market issues for senior management and external stakeholders
• assist other teams and working across ASIC on multi-disciplinary team projects
• help build our next generation of data-driven tools, and use the outputs in threat mitigation

About you
To be considered for this role, you will have a finger on the pulse of current macroeconomic and financial issues, with an understanding of how markets operate, and what drives consumer outcomes. You will possess a wide skill set in statistical methods and data manipulation, with the ability to interpret data and identify common patterns trends and insights. It is also essential that you hold a tertiary qualification in either economics, applied finance, business or commerce.
